This is Nurse Kelly and Nurse Courtney! We wanted to share the virtual nurse office with everyone in case you haven't seen it yet. Please click on the pictures, there are many links that bring you information about COVID-19, school health and BPS forms you need, as well as various activities you can do at home if you would like!
Also a reminder, we wanted to make sure all families were aware of the new State of Massachusetts requirement that ALL STUDENTS RECEIVE A SEASONAL FLU VACCINE. The deadline has been extended through February 28, 2021. This includes students who are fully remote. As always, if students have a medical or religious exemption for immunizations it will be honored with a letter from the parent/guardian.
There are a variety of flu virus vaccination options available, most of which are completely covered by health insurance:
**Primary Care Provider: Most health insurance plans cover the cost of a flu vaccine from your primary care provider and require no co-pay.
** Pharmacies: Many pharmacies offer the flu vaccine at no cost to the patient. Due to COVID-19 public health emergency, many pharmacists in Massachusetts are now able to vaccinate those who are 3 years old and older. For pharmacies, we recommend that individuals call ahead to confirm availability and any required documentation.
If you do not have health insurance, or if co-pays are a barrier, we encourage you to call the Mayor’s Health Line at (617) 534-5050 or toll-free at (800) 847-0710. BPHC, through the Mayor’s Health Line, will be offering vouchers for free flu vaccines to uninsured or underinsured adults, which may be redeemed at any Walgreens pharmacy.
If you have questions about the flu or flu vaccines, call the Infectious Disease Bureau at 617-534-5611. Calls are free and confidential.
After your child receives the flu vaccine please communicate with us.
Please send a copy to one of us at either kfitzgerald@bostonpublicschools.org or ckenney6@bostonpublicschools.org or you can fax it to the Hennigan at 617-635-8271.
