Chromebook Care Tips (While at School)
Hi students! To ensure our Chromebooks are always ready for learning, please follow these simple guidelines:
Keep Chromebooks in the Classroom:
Chromebooks assigned to your classroom should remain there. They are not allowed to leave the classroom or be taken home.
Charge for the Next Class:
When class ends, plug your Chromebook into its designated charging station. This ensures it’s ready for the next class, just like how you get recharged with a snack!
Found a Lost Chromebook?:
If you find a misplaced Chromebook in the halls, gym, or outside, please return it to its proper place. If you’re unsure where it belongs, bring it to the library (Room 327)—teachers may be searching for it.
Important Reminders:
Chromebooks are school property and must not be taken home or out of the classroom.
The replacement cost for a missing Chromebook is $400.
Chromebooks for home use can be signed out from the library (ask the library staff for details).
By following these tips, we can ensure everyone has access to Chromebooks for learning and creativity.
Thank you for being a responsible tech teammate!

1. Handling Devices:
Avoid Food and Drinks: Keep food and beverages away from devices to prevent spills and damage.
Use Proper Surfaces: Place devices on clean, flat surfaces to avoid accidental drops or damage.
Carry Carefully: Use both hands to carry devices and always store them in protective cases when not in use.
2. Cleaning and Maintenance:
Screen Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a screen cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials and never apply liquid directly to the screen.
Keyboard Cleaning: Gently shake out debris and use compressed air to clean between keys. Wipe the keys with a slightly damp cloth.
Ports and Connectors: Keep ports clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clear any obstructions.
3. Battery Care:
Charging: Charge devices using only the provided charger and avoid overcharging. Unplug once fully charged.
Storage: If not in use for extended periods, store devices with a partially charged battery (around 50%).
Heat Management: Avoid exposing devices to excessive heat or direct sunlight, which can affect battery performance and lifespan.
4. Usage Guidelines:
Secure Usage: Always lock the device when not in use and ensure that personal data is protected with passwords or other security measures.
Software Updates: Regularly check for and install software updates to ensure devices are running the latest security patches and features.
5. Reporting Issues:
Immediate Reporting: Report any malfunctions, damage, or issues to the technology coordinator as soon as they occur-room 327. Do not attempt to repair devices yourself.
Boston Public Schools (BPS) provides a wide array of technology resources for students and staff. These resources are intended for educational purposes only.
The BPS Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) outlines responsible use and prohibited activities for all technology, including networks, electronic devices, and online resources. Developed with input from BPS administrators, teachers, students, parents, community partners, school police, and the BPS legal advisor, the policy applies to all users of the BPS network, including staff, students, and guests.
The School Committee adopted a new AUP in spring 2014 to address the growing number of technologies being used in classrooms.
Every student is expected to:
Follow the rules and conditions listed in the policy and those communicated by teachers and administrators.
Demonstrate good citizenship and ethical behavior at all times.
Account Security
I am responsible for my computer and email account. I understand that passwords are private, and I should not share them. I will not allow others to use my account and will log off at the end of each session to protect my account.
Appropriate Language
I will use appropriate language in my email messages, online postings, and other digital communications. I will not use profanity, vulgarities, or inappropriate language as determined by school administrators.
Respecting Others
I will use email and other communication tools (e.g., blogs, wikis, chat, instant messaging, discussion boards) responsibly. I will not send or post hate or harassing messages, make discriminatory remarks, or engage in bullying or other antisocial behaviors, either in or out of school.
Responsible Use of the BPS Network
I will use BPS technology resources responsibly. I will not search, retrieve, save, circulate, or display hate-based, offensive, or sexually explicit material. I will not search for or circulate images or information about weapons unless authorized by a school administrator as part of a school assignment.
Online Conduct
I understand that my actions on social networking websites should not negatively impact the school environment or my peers. I will be honest online and will not impersonate or spoof others. This includes creating accounts or posting content in someone else’s name.
Network Security
I will not attempt to bypass security settings, install illegal software, or interfere with the operation of the network by using file sharing, shareware, or freeware on school computers.
Protection of School Property
I understand that vandalism is prohibited. This includes accessing, modifying, or destroying equipment, programs, files, or settings on any school computer or technology resource. I will only use personal electronic devices (e.g., USB drives) with permission from a school administrator.
Respect for Others’ Work
I will obey copyright laws and will not plagiarize or use others’ work without proper citation. I will not illegally download materials protected by copyright, including music and movies.
Publishing Online
I will follow BPS guidelines when publishing schoolwork online (e.g., on websites, blogs, wikis, discussion boards). I understand it is unsafe to post personal information, such as my name, address, or phone number. I will not post photos of students along with their names online without parental/guardian permission.
