FEATURING MS. CATLETT'S CLASS
This week our class concluded our Pets and Vets theme. In Obedience School, students took on the role of the Trainer in the Blocks Center. They trained their pets using different commands such as jump, walk, roll over, and heel. In the Waiting Room, students were reading books, and sorting letters in their name from letters that are not in their name. They worked on matching uppercase and lowercase letters. Students enjoyed making treats and cookies for their pets in the Pet Bakery using play-doh, paint, and tons of collage materials. Additionally, they were making leashes and collars in the Pet Store, grooming animals in Science, and taking on the role of Veterinarian and Customer.
Small Group/Large Group Activities
We read Just Me and My Puppy by Mercer Mayer and You Dirty Dog. Students sorted and classified animals by their home (cage, tank, pet bed) and by their appearance (spots/no spots, tail/no tail, color, and size). During Graphics Practice, the class practiced making bones, bowls, and spirals.
FEATURING MRS. DOUGHERTY'S CLASS
This week in Mrs. Dougherty’s class…
We are in a new make-believe play theme! The classroom has been transformed to a supermarket. Each student is practicing different roles that are related to the supermarket play theme. Some of these roles include cashier, manager, shopper, and store clerk.
Literacy: In graphics practice, the students are practicing drawing a maze. While drawing the maze, students used the private speech “up, across, down, across, up, across, down across.
A play plan connection for this drawing is that the letters E, F, and L require the same motor movements that are required while drawing the maze.
We had 2 birthdays this week! Each student had a parent come in and read a book from home. The students were so excited to have surprise readers in the class to celebrate their friends' birthdays!
Books we read this week:
No David! - by David Shannon
Pig the Star- by Aaron Blabey
On This Day in March- by Marilyn Singer
