The Kindergarten Crew had a blast celebrating Read Across America. Read Across America is a national celebration that began in 1998. The National Education Association started this program as a way to encourage students to get excited about reading. The students had a fun-filled week of reading-related activities. They were so excited to have mystery readers in their classes. Kindergarteners got to design their own bookmarks and vote on a favorite bookmark designed by a second-grade student. The students even got to read with flashlights! To finish Read Across America week, the Kindergarten Crew participated in D.E.A.R. also known as Drop Everything And Read. School Street School students all lined the hallways and read a new book thanks to the PTA. Reading is an amazing way to increase a child’s creativity and imagination. “You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.” ~Dr. Seuss
