iPads are tricky, but students should be able to translate documents if they choose. If you as a teacher would like to translate a document, when you are in your doc, go to TOOLS and dropdown to Translate document.
If you want a google slide translated (I think it could be easier for a teacher to do on a laptop than a student to do on an ipad). Download the slide as a PDF onto your desktop, then go to: Google Translate and drag and drop (make sure document tab in google translate is clicked and correct languages are detected).
If you have a PDF that won't magically translate, or a poster or handout...get the google translate app on your ipad, click on the image icon and use your camera to hover over a document for it to magically translate.

NEED PAPERWORK TRANSLATED? Google Translate

Here you can upload PDFs of all paperwork and the whole document can be translated into many different languages at the click of a button.

If you realize you have already sent a letter home in English, and you were not contacted by parents or guardians, parents may have access to the google translate app where photos can be taken of the letter or flyer and be translated.

What is a SLIFE student? The Maine Department of Education defines a Student with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) as a student who meets all the following criteria:

Is a multilingual learner;
Has an English language proficiency level (as measured by WIDA assessments) of level 2.0 or below for students in grades 2-3 or level 2.5 or below for students in grades 4-12;

Is at least eight years old;
Has experienced at least one of the following:
a. No formal schooling
b. Interruptions in formal schooling (defined as two or more re-enrollments or two years or more less schooling than typical peers)

c. Consistent but limited formal schooling outside the United States; and
