Welcome! My name is Ana Abbott and I am the ESOL teacher at MSAD schools. My first year at Bonny Eagle was in 2001. I taught Spanish at BEMS for 20 years, and now I'm in the wonderful adventure of working with multilingual students and families! Although Spanish was my first language, I never got English language support back in the 80s and 90s when I was in school, and looking back now I realize how helpful it would have been in my educational journey.  As an ESOL teacher today, I love being able to support my students academically as well as helping them and their families connect to the  MSAD 6 community. My husband, daughter, and son all went through the Bonny Eagle School system which makes us extra BE proud to live in this community.

What does ESOL stand for? ESOL = English for Speakers of Other Languages

ESL = English as a Second Language

ELL = English Language Learner

ML = Multilingual Learner

Why are students now referred to as Multilingual Learners (MLs?) The reason it was changed was because English is necessarily not the student’s second language….English could be their third or fourth language!
