Let's think about reading...mathematically!
Student A reads 20 minutes five nights each week Student B reads only 4 minutes a night...or not at all
Step 1: Mulitply minutes a night by 5 times each week.
Student A reads 20 minutes x 5 (days a week)=100 minutes a week of reading.
Student B reads 4 minutes or less x 5 (days a week)= 20 minutes or less a week.
Step 2: Multiply minutes a week by 4 weeks a month.
Student A= 400 minutes a month Student B= 80 minutes a month or less
Step 3: Multiply minutes a month by 9 months in a school year.
Student A= 3,600 minutes a school year Student B= 720 minutes or less a school year
Student A practices reading the equivalent of ten whole school days a year, has learned more vocabulary and had exposure to many different situations through reading different stories
Student B practices the equivalent of only two school days or less a year, has less vocabulary exposure, and has not been exposed to different life situations.
Tell me, which student has the best advantage among his/her peers?
Which student is more likely to succeed in school?
Which student is more likely to develop better writing skills?
Which student is more likely to spell better?
Which student would you expect to be more successful in school?
Which situation do you want for your child?
