Professional Development
The Importance of Reflective Development:
As an instructor it is important to actively seek out feedback from your professional peers, department supervisors, and students. Each semester I conduct a MAP Assessments of my classes, request that my department heads and fellow professors sit in on classes, maintain logs of my classes, and carefully review my student evaluations. These experiences have helped me identify both my strengths and areas for growth as an educator, and the insights I have gained have greatly enhanced the quality of my classes.
Examples of Reflective Development:
Teaching Logs:
I keep a detailed teaching log about the my classes. I use this log to both record what happened in class and to improve future classes. Here is an example of my teaching logs from the Fall 2019 semester.
Course Evaluations:
Student feedback is extremely important and something I use to improve my courses. Below is an action plan that I created based off my student evaluation from the Fall of 2019.
The importance of Professional Development:
During my time as an adjunct professor I have had the privilege of attending a number of professional development workshops provided through the Center of Teaching and Learning at Boise State. As an instructor I feel that it is paramount to continually engage in these workshops to improve my teaching, to learn more about the challenges students face, and to become aware of innovative approaches to learning.
