Example Activities

Examples Of Assignments:

Here are examples of summative assessments that I assign during my UF200 courses. Each of the assignments is designed to be fully transparent and contain full grading rubrics.

Examples of Active Learning:

Below are examples of how I incorporate active learning into the classroom in order to create dynamic, inclusive, and successful classes.

Multi-Class Mind Mapping:

Students from two different classes were tasked with creating mind maps for the final group projects. The first class began with creating their outline mind map and the following class, which took place directly after, was asked to add, expand, and ask questions about the original map. The maps were then shared on a Google so that the two classes could collaborate in-depth.

Cards and Culture:

Midway through the semester the students are split into groups of 5 to play the card game Barnga. They asked to quickly learn the rules to a card game, and then play the card game in total silence. At the end of each round the students are asked to move up or down based on how they preformed in each round. At the end of the game it is revealed that each table had different rules.

The debrief of the activity helps students understand the challenges of privilege, social norms, and inequity.

Using 20 Sided Dice:

At the beginning of the semester each student is given their own 20 sided polyhedral dice. They use these dice during each class to create randomization in games, increase participation in activities, spur diversity in conversation, and add a fun aspect to the class overall.

Using iClicker Reef:

I utilize iClicker Reef in my in-person classes to take attendance, maintain student focus, conduct formative assessments, and to provide the students with way to respond to difficult and controversial questions with full anonymity.
