Libraries:
Albertsons Library collection at Boise State University, with subject-specific library liaisons
Extensive ornithological library at the World Center for Birds of Prey on site by appointment. Call 208-362-3716 to schedule or request a PDF copy of an item in their collection.
Research Communication: The Research and Creative Activities Communications Toolbox provides guidance on sharing research with the public. Note that sometimes members of the public have sensitivities to animal research. Please discuss your posting of any animal-related research photographs or content to social media or websites with your major professor or supervisor to ensure compliance with university oversight.
Mail:
Graduate students have mailboxes in SCNC 106 or SCNC 109 for work and academic use.
Research equipment packages should be addressed to [Your Name], Dept. of Biological Sciences MS-1515, Boise State University, 1910 University Dr., Boise, ID 83725. Alternatively, packages can be mailed to the same address but to Raptor Research Center MS-1516. The MS # prompts Central Receiving on where to deliver the package. You will be notified by email of packages ready for pickup by DBS or RRC admin.
Personal mail/packages will not be picked up, processed, or received by the university’s Mail Services. But students, staff, and the public can use Bronco Express shipping services in the SUB for shipping personal items!
Space is provided for graduate students in Raptor Research Building and in the Science Building upon request when students submit a Biology Graduate Student Office Space Request. Advisors may also have workspaces for students within their research laboratories, and some advisors may prefer that students use space in their labs - check with your advisor before requesting office space.

Requested workstations are assigned by the RRC Research Center Administrator in the RR Building and by the DBS Program Coordinator-Student Research in the Science Building. If you move to another desk space, notify admin.
Cleaning individual office spaces is your responsibility.
Please be respectful of other office occupants.
The RRC may be able to provide additional space to store field gear in the Raptor Research Building.
RRC Key Request Form or DBS Key/Proxy Authorization Form: Complete online to request proxy access and keys to specific buildings and labs for RRC Rooms (RAPT 101-107, 115, 116, 127) or DBS rooms (RAPT 117-126, 131 and SCNC rooms), respectively. Use the DBS form to request keys/access to Science Building rooms.
All M.S. Raptor Biology students, M.S. or M.A. Biology students, EEB students, Biology employees, and Raptor Research Center employees will automatically have proxy access to the Raptor Research Building and the Science Building, Biology front office, Science Building 2nd floor copier, and Science Building 4th floor ice machine. Notify departmental admin if there are access issues.
For immediate access issues, contact Campus Public Safety by phone or text at 208-426-6911. Be prepared to show your Bronco Card or provide the responding officer with your student ID number.
All keys must be returned to the issuing department at the end of students’ programs or employees’ tenure and before vacating campus.
Raptor Research Building and Science Building conference rooms are available for discussions, seminars, group study, practicing presentations, etc. by students, faculty, and staff.

The RRC maintains diverse computer, field, and laboratory equipment that may be loaned to students.
See the RRC Equipment List on RRC Resources & Forms and complete an RRC Equipment Checkout Form.
A student’s graduate advisor or employee’s supervisor can contact the RRC to request new equipment/supply purchases using RRC funds by completing an RRC Equipment & Supply Order Form.
Computers, Software, & Peripherals
A powerful desktop computer is available in a RR Building graduate office (use RAPT 116 Computer Use calendar to reserve in-person or for remote access) with a suite of GIS and Statistical Software installed (R, ArcGIS Desktop, etc.).
Note that personal files are not saved on this computer, and work must be saved to your own media.
If a Boise State-owned computer is not working, email the RRC Research Center Administrator with your name, the date it stopped working, the make and model, the serial #, the room # it is in, and a detailed description of the problem.
RAPT 119 and SCNC 146B have computers available for use whenever classes are not being held.
ArcGIS Online is available to all currently enrolled students on any capable computer (64 MB RAM minimum; 256 MB RAM minimum recommended). Go to this link > Click Boise State Enterprise Login > Sign in using your usual Boise State credentials.

Printers are available in all graduate offices for low volume printing. A copier and plotter (large format printer) are available in the Department of Biological Sciences mail room.
Field Vehicles from RRC: The RRC Fleet consists of six 4x4 trucks kept at the RRC Building at 970 S. Lusk St. that are available for field use by students and employees.
All drivers of RRC vehicles must read through the linked website’s information and complete new driver documents and prerequisites, so there is a lead time of a couple of weeks for new drivers.
Requests should be submitted as far in advance as possible and must be approved by a student’s advisor.
Other Vehicle Rentals:
Field Vehicles - External Rentals: Off-Road Research Vehicle Rentals Standard Operating Procedure – SOP for external off-road vehicle rentals to mitigate vehicle vendors’ fees for damage not caused by Boise State University drivers.
Road Vehicles: For road travel to conferences, training, and local trips, see Motor Pool Reservations for on-road driving travel needs from Boise State Motor Pool or contact DBS or RRC administrators to discuss rental options. Rental vehicles, whether rented through Boise State or externally through the state’s contract with Enterprise, are considered University Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Record checks are required of drivers. Multi-Passenger Van Training is also available and required before renting vans. Motor Pool vehicles may be used in the U.S. and Canada. Other international vehicle rentals may be procured from any reputable vendor with all optional coverages/insurance selected.
Student Driver Authorization Form: This form must be submitted on behalf of a student driver to authorize their use of a rental vehicle under the State of Idaho Rental Contract for rental vehicles
Students Employed by Boise State: Travel to advance your graduate research, such as training or to present research at a conference, can be scheduled as work-related travel with a Travel Authorization (submit a Travel Authorization Info Form-RRC) and Expense Report for reimbursements after travel.
Students Not Employed by Boise State: A Student Travel and Field Trip Expectations and Consent Agreement should be completed for any overnight travel to be filed with the home department.
Check/update your emergency contact information on file (employee link / student link).
Personal time may be combined with work/educational time during travel, but certain protocols must be followed during purchasing that are outlined on the TA Info Form-RRC.
Before proceeding with any of these steps, consult your advisor and/or RRC administration.
Work/Conference Time Insurance Coverage: After securing a Travel Authorization (TA), complete a Foreign Travel Submission for international emergency insurance. Notify Risk Management & Insurance (RMI@boisestate.edu) if your personal travel dates changed from your original plan in the TA. Specify any personal days in the RMI form.
Personal Time Insurance Coverage: You have the option to get emergency assistance insurance (such as emergency evacuation) and international medical coverage for personal travel days through Boise State's Center for Global Engagement. To request, email AmiTain@boisestate.edu at CGE. Identify yourself as a student with the RRC and acknowledge that you are aware that your student account will be charged directly for the insurance.
Ensure you have an up-to-date passport that expires at least 6 months after the last date of your upcoming travel.
Obtain visas or other paperwork as necessary. See the U.S. Department of State travel website.
Enroll in the STEP program at state.step.gov to be located in emergencies and get up-to-date destination information.
Check into international cell phone options, technology compatibility with outlets, recommended or required vaccinations, customs medication prohibitions, etc. before travel.
