Welcome to the Boise State University Raptor Research Center (RRC)!
Click Table of Contents links below to skip to a section.
Established in 1987, the Raptor Research Center (RRC) supports students working on the biology, ecology, and conservation of birds of prey. This includes all of the students in the Master of Science in Raptor Biology program; Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior Ph.D. students with a focus on raptors; and other students.
In addition, we offer various student research experiences including Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), International Research Experiences for (undergraduate and graduate) Students (IRES), Soaring Scholarships for undergraduates, and equipment and office support for students outside the raptor programs.
The RRC operates as part of the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) at Boise State University with close connections to the Department of Biological Sciences.
The RRC offers technical assistance, financial and logistical support, and training to students and grant-funded researchers conducting research on raptors and raptor habitats in laboratories, field projects, or international settings. Sponsored projects include research with state and federal natural resource agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international partners.
Boise State University and the RRC have a cooperative agreement with the USGS Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center–Snake River Field Station–to promote cooperative scientific research and development, monitoring, and collaborative technological and educational partnerships in ecology and natural resources. Additionally, locally based Intermountain Bird Observatory and The Peregrine Fund collaborate with the RRC on student research and conservation efforts.
RRC website & news posts: Announcements and photos are always welcome additions.
Current students: Information will be requested after about a year in the M.S. Raptor Biology program or EEB raptor program.
Alumni webpage: Information is requested of raptor students after graduation and updates are welcome.
RRC Instagram: Share stories and news.
Submit information on research projects and career plans, along with brief updates as they become available, to the RRC Research Center Administrator (RaptorResearchCenter@boisestate.edu).
A directory of all current and past M.S. Raptor Biology students and EEB raptor students is kept in the RRC with students’ names, mailing addresses, phone #s, advisor, thesis topic/title, awards received, career placement, etc. Students will be asked for information to add to this directory to facilitate center reports, future reference, and communication.
If a student wants to contact an alum, the RRC will give that student’s contact information to the alum. If a member of the public asks to contact a student or alum, that requestor's information will be provided to the student or alum.
College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) Student Success – This website features resources to help students with schoolwork, navigating the transition to college life, planning their academic careers, Academic Advising, and more.
Graduate College Student Forms
Student Success Hub – See “For Students” for a “comprehensive resource for fostering academic growth and personal development at Boise State University”
Intermountain Bird Observatory – University Student Learning
Graduate Catalog – Interactive catalog with official information about programs and courses offered. The page includes a Search Catalog function and a downloadable PDF of the graduate catalog.
Boise State Course Search – Select "Graduate" and which semester you are searching for to see courses that are being offered that semester, instructors, the mode of instruction, and the dates. This drills down by field of study but does not have search functions that would allow you to search for specific courses.
Boise State University Tuition and Fees, including Complete List of Course Fees
Academic Advisement Report – Navigate to My Boise State > Student Center > Advising and Academic Progress > My Academic Requirements. This should show you what classes you have taken to fulfill your graduate study requirements and what classes still need to be taken.
Class Search (Enroll) – Navigate to My Boise State > Student Center > Class Search and Enrollment > Class Search and Enroll. This is where you can enroll for classes, and you can see exactly what's being offered including more detail than course search, such as how many seats are still available. This has a search function, so you could search for BIOL598 to see all seminars being offered in the upcoming semester, for example. You cannot search a range of specific courses such as BIOL 561-567, but you can search for each class number. Additional search functionality and filters are in development.
Most graduate assistants (GAs) are paid salary for which they do not need to enter time cards. The payroll calendar outlining when you will be paid for what time periods and the holiday calendar of dates campus offices are closed can be found on Human Resources’ (HR) Payroll and Holiday Calendars page.
GAs, as with all employees, must complete an I-9 form within 3 days of the start of their employment. See I-9 Process.
See HR’s Taxes, W-2s, and W-4s web page for information on tax withholding and how to submit needed forms.
See HR’s Direct Deposit page to learn how to request or update direct deposit information for payroll.
GAs are automatically enrolled in the student healthcare insurance plan. The Graduate College oversees these plans. Reach out to them if you have any questions or concerns regarding your student healthcare plan during your time as a GA.
