Project SHINE has more than doubled the number of hours of instruction available to elder refugees.Â
Each year, at least 25% of the elder refugees who live in Boise engage weekly with Boise State students.
Over 250 Boise State students have contributed more than 4,700 hours of service to the elder refugee class.
Elders who stay in the program long-term have a 100% success rate in obtaining citizenship.
BSU SHINE graduates go on to pursue graduate degrees in applied linguistics and TESOL, and they teach English in Boise and around the world.
SHINE research assistants have built a database of over 50 lessons on citizenship and daily life for elders learning English.
