PROJECT SHINE

Students Helping In the Naturalization of Elders

Purpose

Project SHINE is a national service-learning initiative in which university students assist elder refugees in their efforts to learn English and obtain citizenship. At Boise State, students have opportunities to assist in classes for elders, develop lessons and materials, and plan social events.

Intergenerational Learning: Elder students who succeed in passing their citizenship test return to class as peer mentors for students who have recently arrived to the US. Boise State students collaborate with elder peer mentors to help new arrivals learn English.
