Universal screeners in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) are standardized assessments administered to all students to identify those who may be at risk for academic or behavioral challenges. These screeners serve as an early detection tool, allowing schools to proactively identify students who might benefit from additional support before significant gaps develop. Administered three times a year, universal screeners provide data to guide decision-making about which students may need interventions in Tier 2 or Tier 3, ensuring that appropriate support is provided promptly.
Refer to the MTSS Flowcharts for more details on steps to take after the universal screener has been given.
