What’s going on for our learners now?
How do we know?
What’s the evidence?
Date: February 2022
HATE mathematics, NO self-confidence
Like Mathematics, but not so much my teacher
Have I made enough difference?
What still needs to change?
What is next?
Date: March 2022
Students very rarely miss their Tuesday Math.
Come in with the attitude of setting a goal for the day, and the plan of how to achieve it.
Convinced the 2MFC students to try Algebra
Half of the 2MFC students are giving it a go; They actually now formed a study group
What has changed in my teaching?
What evidence supports this?
the fact that they are getting credits for their work
positive feedback
What is working:
do individual teaching by the red table
chunking the work up into smaller more "user-friendly" parts
ticking off the boxes, and showing them from the 1st lesson what they should be able to do to get their achieve ticks
putting the marking grid in front of them on paper while they are typing up their reports
letting them set the bar for themselves
Get some more MFC work for students for EVERYDAY math/ budgeting skills
Sit down with every student, and talk through their Math plan/goals
Change some of the normal math syllabus to Young Enterprise Unit standards on Budgeting and Setting Goals.
Also lifting the bar: "Let's try to do all of these Algebra for half of the day/other half divided into MFC and Statistics.
Student Learning:
Not just normal math AS but also some MFC US thrown into the mix - they can actually get A, M and E for some of these standards
Teacher Practice:
Class site; mixture of class work and class site, working independently
OR
the option of now doing it all into small parts on Hapara workspace.
What is extremely important for this group is to have a formal structure within the informal learning:
For example:
5 min getting ready to learn
walk around check in with every one
Sit down at the RED table, and invite students over to come and sit with me to support their learning
15 minutes of learning
5 min brain break
10 min reflecting/informal testing of what was learnt today
