Term 2: 2023
Today's staff meeting follows our theme for term three which is Smart Relationships from the Cybersmart curriculum. We'll be looking at how regular blogging can enhance students' writing, and gives them opportunities to practice being Cybersmart by learning important digital citizenship skills.
In week three this term, Manaiakalani are hosting their Nationwide Share staff meeting. This is all about connecting with other teachers across the motu and sharing what they are currently doing for their growth cycles. Last year we had over 450 teachers taking part.
You can see what we'll talking about here. It is meant to be conversational so there is no requirement for people to present anything. Just a great opportunity to bounce ideas off of others and to reflect and gain some insight into how they can maximise the effectiveness of their inquiry goal.
As teachers harnessing technology to amplify effective practice has TWO sides to it, Giving and Getting
Some of us do both!
We search online for resources, ideas, professional reading, evidence based strategies etc etc
We share our own practice online eg through having a visible site, through professional blogging, sharing our folders and resources, contributing to online groups...
In this meeting, we'll consider what deliberate teaching practice is having the most positive impact and how we can build on this practice to ensure learning is engaging and focused towards raising student achievment.
Monday 28th November 3:30 pm - staff room
Being Cybersmart in a Learn, Create, Share world is the focus of our staff meeting today. Students need time to develop their digital citizenship understanding throughout their school years. Integrating Cybersmart teaching moments into our lessons, gives students an opportunity to practice being Cybersmart in a variety of contexts which will aid them in their adult and professional lives.
You'll have time today to review the Manaiakalani Cybersmart resources and reflect on what you might already be including in your classes. The key is to consider how we might enhance what we are already and ensure 'being Cybersmart' is explicit and deliberate teaching.

In preparation for our Learn staff meeting, senior management have asked you to create a teaching rewindable learning resource i.e. video or audio that you have used or are going to use with your students. Please have this ready to share at the staff meeting.
Please review the slide deck and video below.
In 2022, the Year 9 students will be moving to the new blogging platform called Edublogger. The slide deck on the right is from the staff presentation at the beginning of term one. It shows teachers how to access Edublogs and what this means for students.
