Our Term 1 staff hui introduced key digital learning practices and tools supporting the Manaiakalani pedagogy of Learn | Ako, Create | Hanga, Share | Tohatoha. Staff were guided through the use of Google Workspace tools, class sites, and the Hāpara Teacher and Student Dashboards to enable consistent access to learning across the school.
We explored the importance of ensuring students know how to manage their Google Drive, use Google Apps effectively, and navigate class sites, which are all accessible via the Bay of Islands College curriculum website.
A significant focus was placed on the Manaiakalani Cybersmart programme, designed to develop students' digital citizenship and online learning skills. Components covered include Smart Learner, Smart Footprint, Smart Relationships, Smart Media, Smart Surfing, Smart & Legal, Smart Money, and Smart Values—helping students become confident, responsible users of digital technologies.
The meeting also highlighted upcoming opportunities such as Department Discussions, Secondary Connects, and Toolkits aimed at supporting teacher development and collaboration across the region.
Staff were encouraged to explore additional Cybersmart resources via the Manaiakalani Cybersmart site, take part in online toolkits, and nominate themselves or colleagues for Ngā Whetū o Manaiakalani
