At BOIC we place two grades on each of the topics we cover in Physical Education under the following categories: Participation and Level of Achievement. The participation grade refers to how often they brought their gear and got involved in each of the activities required giving their best levels of effort and engagement. The Level of Achievement grade refers to the level of physical skill they have for that unit, how they relate to others, their knowledge and understanding of the unit to further improve their level of ability, as well as written reflections on the unit.
In the Health and Physical Education department we have top awards at the end of year prizegiving for both Juniors and Senior Option subjects. For the Junior Core classes there is ranking system of the top 3 students in the class for Health and Physical Education based on the grades you have received for the year. The grades are reflective of physical skill, relating to others, and written reflections which consolidate your learning. Also across all of the 5 junior core classes there is a year 9 and year 10 top boy and top girl in Health and Physical Education. So be sure to check in with your teacher and ask how you are tracking towards achieving success...and remember it is not just about physical ability to be considered for these awards, this is just one element!
