At Key stage 4, Core PE is delivered in two 50-55-minute periods per week where depending on their class, pupils are taught a more varied curriculum through a selection of activities.
In Year 9, pupils are split into six ability classes based on their attainment in Year 8 and whether they have chosen GCSE PE or BTEC Sport as one of their option subjects. Pupils will then have the option of taking the Level 1 Sports Leaders qualification within their Core PE lessons, and those remaining will be split into either a Performance, Competition or CLIL class.
In Year 10, pupils remain in similar groups to those in Year 9 but with the addition of dispersed CLIL pupils. Pupils have the option to progress their Sports Leadership journey from Year 9 and study the Level 2 Sports Leaders qualification within their Core PE lessons.Â
In Year 11, pupils are given full autonomy over their PE curriculum and are given the option of following either a Performance, Competition or Participation pathway. Activities taught will depend on the pathway chosen.
