Circle Time Fun
Our EYP learners had a blast singing and moving with the lively preschool song "Make a Circle". The children joyfully gathered in a circle, holding hands and following along with the playful lyrics. As they stepped in and out to make the big and small circle and the movements up and down, they not only enjoyed the rhythm but also strengthened their coordination and teamwork. The activity was a fun way to introduce movement and music, helping our little ones develop gross motor skills and social connections through shared participation and creativity!
Our superstar learners enhanced their fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities through an engaging activity called "Follow the Taped Path." Using blocks, the little learners carefully traced the precise path created with tape on their tables. This fun and interactive exercise promoted hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and critical thinking while keeping the learning process enjoyable and creative.
Logical learners focused on beginning sounds (or initial sounds), discovering how these are the first sounds in words, made by the letters at the start. For example, they identified that "cat" starts with the "k" sound. Similarly, they did it for the words like mat, dog, fed, and big. Not only did they state the beginning sounds, but they also practiced reading the words these sounds create. Through engaging activities, the children strengthened their phonics skills and built confidence in recognizing and reading simple words. In doing so, they demonstrated their abilities as thinkers and knowledgeable, showing curiosity and a willingness to explore the sounds of language, and as communicators, confidently expressing their understanding and practicing reading aloud with their peers.
Mindful learners engaged in a colorful Jenga activity, where most blocks were of the same color, with one block in a different color placed on the floor. They observed and identified the "odd one out," enhancing their ability to recognize patterns. This activity promoted the development of key transdisciplinary skills: thinking skills as learners analyzed and compared patterns, self-management skills as they focused and stayed organized, and communication skills as they shared observations and reasoning. Additionally, learners demonstrated learner profile attributes such as being knowledgeable, thinkers and reflective while enthusiastically participating in the activity and building more confidence.

They focused on the three main colors of a traffic signal: Red (stop), Yellow (slow), and Green (go), as well as the importance of various sign boards that guide drivers and pedestrians. Through this activity, they understood how these signals and signboards help everyone follow the rules and ensure safety on the road. The activity developed self-management skills by focusing on learning road safety, and communication skills as they discussed the meanings of different signals and signs. Learners demonstrated being inquirers and knowledgeable enhancing their awareness and responsibility towards road safety.
Eager learners were introduced to fundamental measurement concepts, including length, weight, and temperature. They explored how to compare and measure everyday objects, gaining a practical understanding of units like centimeters, grams, and degrees. Engaging activities included measuring classroom objects like cupboards and tables using measuring tapes, determining the temperature of hot and cold water with thermometers, and weighing small objects with a weighing scale. These hands-on tasks, using real measuring tools, helped learners develop essential math skills and appreciate the importance of measurement in daily life.
In this project, Grade 1 students created drawings or pasted pictures of various city locations, such as hospitals, parks, and schools. Through this activity, they not only learned about each place and its function but also developed transdisciplinary skills like creativity, collaboration, and communication. They explored the significance of these spaces within the city, building a deeper understanding of their role in society. The project encouraged the development of the learner profile attributes such as Inquirers, Knowledgeable, and Thinkers, as students asked questions, researched, and made connections to real-world concepts.
As part of the City Places chapter, Grade 1 students explored the importance of traffic lights in ensuring safety. They learned about the three signals – red for stop, yellow for get ready, and green for go – and understood how these signals help guide both vehicles and pedestrians. The students expressed their creativity by drawing vibrant traffic lights and discussing how these signals are essential in our daily lives. This activity fostered teamwork, encouraged meaningful discussions, and helped the students develop a better understanding of traffic safety rules, while promoting the learner profile attributes of Inquirers, Communicators, and Reflective.
Engaged learners embarked on an exciting underwater adventure as they explored the world of sea creatures. Each student chose their favorite sea creature, drew it with enthusiasm, and shared what made it special to them. This activity allowed them to learn about different marine animals while fostering creativity and enhancing communication skills. The discussions sparked curiosity and a deeper appreciation for the ocean's fascinating inhabitants.
Through the flower dissection activity, the curious learner gained a deeper understanding of the key parts of a flower, including the petals, sepals, and pollen, and their roles in reproduction. She observed how the stamens produce pollen and learned about the processes of pollination and fertilization. This hands-on experience developed thinking skills as she analyzed the flower’s structure, self-management as she followed the dissection steps carefully, and communication skills as she shared her findings. She demonstrated being an inquirer, knowledgeable, and reflective learner enhancing her appreciation of plant biology.
Practical learners developed spatial awareness and enhanced their understanding of geometry, including vertices, edges, and faces. By manipulating shapes and experimenting with different forms, they strengthened their thinking and problem-solving skills. The activity also encouraged creativity and allowed learners to apply mathematical concepts like volume and surface area in real-world contexts. They demonstrated self-management as they organized their tasks and communication as they shared their insights. Learners displayed IB learner profile attributes such as being knowledgeable and reflective, deepening their understanding and critical thinking skills in geometry.
Through the Venn diagram sorting activity, thoughtful learners learned to categorize different toy animals. A Venn diagram with a single circle was used to represent a specific group. Items belonging to that group were placed inside the circle, while those that didn’t belong remained outside. This activity helped students develop critical thinking and organization skills as they classified and sorted the animals. It also encouraged collaboration and communication during discussions. The activity fostered the learner profile attributes of Thinkers, Inquirers, and Communicators as students analyzed, questioned, and shared their reasoning.
