Course Description:
Art 3 is an advanced-level visual arts course designed for students who are serious about refining their artistic skills, exploring conceptual depth, and developing a strong personal style. Building upon the foundations of Art 1 and 2, this course emphasizes independent thinking, portfolio development, and meaningful engagement with visual culture.
Aligned with the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards for Visual Arts Proficiency, students will create sophisticated artworks that reflect critical thought, technical skill, and personal voice. Projects will challenge students to solve visual problems, investigate thematic content, and explore diverse materials and methods, including traditional, contemporary, and digital practices.

Learning Objectives:
Students will:
Demonstrate mastery in handling a range of media and techniques.
Use the elements and principles of design intentionally to convey meaning.

Standards Alignment:
Art 3 addresses all four artistic processes outlined in the South Carolina Visual Arts Standards:
Creating – Synthesizing ideas and executing original, high-level work.
Presenting – Selecting, refining, and displaying artwork with intent and context.
Responding – Evaluating and interpreting art with depth and critical insight.
Connecting – Relating art to personal experiences, contemporary issues, and global perspectives.
Materials Needed - ( Students are responsible for getting their own 7" x 10" Sketchbook. Sketchbooks need to be mixed media weight paper. Sketchbooks are available from Amazon , Michaels, Target and similar stores. Sketchbooks are expected to be brought into class each day)

Other supplies may be requested throughout the semester.

Make-Up Work & Late Policy
Students are expected to complete assignments on time. Make-up work due to absences
must be arranged with the teacher and completed within one week. Late work may receive
partial credit unless arrangements are made in advance.
