At Bloom Psychiatry, our mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based mental health and substance use disorder care that honors the autonomy, dignity, and inherent worth of every person we serve.
We believe that all individuals have the right to engage in voluntary, person-centered treatment in the least restrictive setting, free from stigma, judgment, or unnecessary barriers. Guided by principles of harm reduction, recovery-oriented practice, and social justice, we strive to meet clients where they are at—supporting their unique goals, values, and lived experiences.
Our approach is grounded in science and empathy, emphasizing collaboration, transparency, and respect for each client’s expertise in their own mind, body, and healing journey. We are committed to delivering ethical, individualized, and safe care that promotes empowerment, engagement, and sustained wellness.
Through advocacy, education, and innovative practice, Bloom Psychiatry seeks to advance access to equitable, evidence-based mental health and addiction services while fostering a culture of compassion and inclusion within our community.
At Bloom Psychiatry, we don’t define recovery for our clients—we walk beside them as they define it for themselves.
Recovery is possible! Each person has their own story to tell, and their own journey to work through it. Everyone deserves an individual approach to their treatment and care.
Welcome to Bloom Psychiatry... I'm so glad you are here and thinking about getting support! My name is Kayla Cross. I am a certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner specializing in mental health and substance use issues. I treat children, adolescents and adults. I am passionate about mental health and substance use treatment through medication management. I am here to support my clients to live their best lives. I love to work with people moving towards recovery from opioid use disorder and enjoy providing treatment options to individuals with substance use issues to achieve their goals. I offer low barrier medication treatment for substance use disorders. The combination of therapy and medications provide an evidence-based treatment approach to mental health and wellness. I strive to find a treatment plan that works for you and fits your life and goals.
Therapy Influences: I use an eclectic approach to therapy often combining Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Trauma Informed Care and Radical Acceptance.
Open communication and trust are the cornerstones of a successful patient experience. There is no judgement on personal choices, preferences, or activities outside of helping you define your goals and supporting your pursuit of them. I want to ensure you feel safe, respected, and autonomous in choosing what you share and how we proceed with treatment.
Dylan Ward, ARNP
As a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I focus primarily on treating mental illness and substance use disorder across the lifespan. I grew up in Spokane, have lived here my entire life, and feel strongly that those who endure mental illness and substance use disorders in our community have the innate capacity to live fulfilling and meaningful lives. As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I am licensed to prescribe medications and provide therapy to treat psychiatric and substance use related disorders.
Therapy Influences: My approach emphasizes trauma informed care by exploring each individual’s unique background and present situation.
I believe it is imperative to view the whole person to better understand how to help each client achieve their goals, and not just treat symptoms. I consider my relationship with each one of my patients to be a collaborative journey towards reaching their highest quality of life. Reducing the stigma of mental illness and substance use disorders is one of the biggest goals in my practice. I will always work to ensure you never feel judged. The path to recovery and success in treatment is non-linear. I am here to support you through that process, every step of the way. When considering treatment options, your concerns and questions are put at the center of the decision-making process.
Shira Albert, ARNP
With over 20 years of clinical experience, Shira Albert, Nurse Practitioner, brings a grounded, whole-person approach to mental health care. She began her career at the bedside in emergency nursing, where fast decision-making and compassionate care were essential, and transitioned into her provider role in psychiatric medicine in 2025. Her background spans Family Health, Emergency Medicine, and Psychiatry, giving her a broad and deeply practical understanding of how mental, physical, and social health intersect. Her work places a strong emphasis on thoughtful, individualized medication management, integrating evidence-based prescribing with patient education, ongoing evaluation, and respect for each person’s goals, values, and lived experience.
In addition to individual patient care, Shira has been deeply involved in community health initiatives, including supporting recovery and facilitating group support for women navigating birth trauma and mental health challenges within Black and Brown communities. She holds a deep commitment to supporting Black and Brown communities in managing mental health with love, cultural humility, and grace. Shira understands the impact of generational stress, systemic inequities, and racial compassion fatigue, and she creates spaces where patients feel seen, respected, and safe to heal. Her approach centers dignity, empowerment, and trust—helping individuals reconnect with their inner resilience while receiving care that honors both their humanity and their healing process.
