BRINGING YOU THE LATEST MIND BLOWING VIDS FROM THE WEB!
Check out how Candy Canes are made below!
By: Eylul Acar
1- What are some stress relief tips/coping methods?
Exercise, meditation, listening to music, journaling, talk to a trusted friend or adult, therapy, deep breathing
2- Are fidgets good to have during class?
Fidgets can be helpful as long as they are inconspicuous, meaning as a teacher, I should not even know you have one.
3- How can you keep your focus?
This one is tough, when your mind is preoccupied with something or some idea it can be difficult to focus or attend to the task at hand. This is also hard when you might not be particularly interested in what’s happening in class. My best suggestion is to try to stay present focused; so think of your five senses and try to identify something with each of those senses to keep you in the moment.
4- What are some things you would tell a kid if they were obviously anxious during class?
Well, I can tell you what I wouldn’t say!! Never say ‘just relax’ or ‘its okay’. It’s important to label your feelings and give them a name. So I would ask the student ‘what are they anxious about?’ When we talk about it and give it a name, that usually helps a lot.
5- List your top 5 favorite coping strategies.
Self-care!
Exercise-release the tension!
Stay busy!
Laugh!
Talk to someone you trust!
6- Is pressure good? - Like, being pressured to do things you know you can’t, or don’t have motivation to do?
Pressure is a good word choice. I don’t think students should be pressured but I do think they should be encouraged to do things they might not have the confidence to do. As an adult and counselor, I know I can encourage students to get out of their comfort zone to try new things if I support them through the process. So I think it matters if the student feels they have someone with them along the way. As a middle schooler, motivation is definitely something that is lacking!! So it’s our job as adults to try to help you find your own motivation. Sometimes lack of motivation can be a symptom of a larger issue or concern, like mental illness. That’s a different story.
7- Is pushing yourself to live up to high expectations a good thing?
The only expectations that matter are the ones you want and set for yourself. This is your life and you have to be at peace with what you want to get out of it! We can’t live our lives for others, that will lead to a lot of stress, anxiety and unhappiness.
8- Should a teacher be pressuring a student to answer a question without knowing the correct answers?
Teachers encourage students to think critically and if a student doesn’t know the answer a teacher will try to lead them in the right direction of the answer.
9- What are some anger management strategies?
Anger is a mask for a sad or depressive emotion most times. It’s easier and sometimes feels safer to be angry rather than sad and vulnerable. So identify the emotion behind the anger (usually it's sadness, frustration, loneliness, etc.). Once you can identify that, usually it's training the brain and body to feel the real emotion and give it a label, like I mentioned above. However, sometimes the anger is still there so strategies to help manage and de-escalate the anger are: Deep breathing, counting to 5 or 10, removing yourself from the situation to calm down, physical activity (like a walk or run).
10- How can you stop yourself from letting your anger out onto someone?
The first step to this is you recognizing that you’re angry. You have to own your emotions and acknowledge them, be accountable! Then practice self-care by requesting time and space alone to work through it. For example, “hey I'm feeling upset and pretty ticked off right now, just gonna do my thing and I’ll text you later.” Then once you have taken time and want to talk about it you can, or you don’t have to. But take your space!!!

You help students everyday with patience and care. How?
I love being a nurse so doing my job with patience and care is easy! I make sure I listen carefully to what students are saying to me and treat them with respect. I smile and greet everyone that comes to see me and make sure they know they are important. I support students when they are injured or sick and give them positive support.
