Positive school culture and climate are integral parts of our district's safety and security protocols. By encouraging and emphasizing the social and emotional learning message of treating each other kindly, through classroom lessons led by our guidance counselors along with our connections with the "Sandy Hook Promise," we are creating a school climate that is safe, secure, and inclusive to everyone. We understand that our best chance of eliminating school violence is prevention, and to make that happen when we are working to empower our students and staff to immediately report behaviors that are concerning. The district has purchased and trained staff on the HIBster electronic tracking program, "the first software solution battling against bullying".
To further support behavioral health and violence prevention, we have expanded our crisis services by adding personnel and are undertaking a comprehensive review of our guidance programs in all schools, making sure we are focusing not only on the identification and referrals of students in crisis, but implementing protocols for prevention and opioid addiction education, as well as first aid, CPR, and AED training to all coaches and Physical Education teacher, staff, and transportation employees.
