This course is a study of health issues of present day that affect today’s society. Areas of study include alcohol and drug abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, aids, tobacco, heart disease, diabetes, cancer treatments, physical fitness and all other aspects of healthy living. Class discussions daily on current health issues. Appropriate for students interested in health care careers and any other careers where they must deal with these issues, such as education, social work, etc.

The primary focus of Health will be to gain an understanding of important aspects concerning the mental, emotional, and social well-being issues facing students and society. The class explores and studies stress management, communication skills, refusal skills, and conflict resolution and violence prevention. Additional topics include: drugs and alcohol, personal care, nutrition, growth and development and body image.

This course includes the teaching of skills and the fundamentals of team and individual sports with an emphasis on dress and participation. .50 credits required for graduation.

This course will offer students the opportunity to learn different aspects of a variety of sports including, but not limited to, officiating, bookkeeping, announcing and clock running. Once completed, students will be connected with Bloom-Carroll Youth Association (BCYA) and have the opportunity to earn money officiating BCYA events. Students will also have an opportunity to experience bookkeeping, clock running and line judging at various high school and middle school home sporting events such as basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball.
