Ninth through Tenth Grade (15-16)

  • Puberty for both boy and girls will be done or almost done
  • Upper body fills out for boys
  • The boys out grow the girls
  • Boys can continue to have growth spurts where as the girls will be done or almost done growing
  • Most girls will be fully developed- rounded hips and breasts
  • Girls will be dealing with more hormones than they have before this point
  • Abstract thinking starts to develop
  • Concentration skills increase
  • Can apply abstract thoughts to other ideas
  • Able to except different points of views
  • Basic learning processes are being mastered
  • Show an increasing ability to reason, make educated guesses and sort fact from fiction

Personal Development

  • Teens personal growth is not as strong as social growth
  • They are finding themselves but still dependent on others thoughts on them
  • They are learning to be their own person
  • Relationship heavy - sexual desires are strong
  • Group consciousness
  • Still find identity with in their peers
  • Crises of friendship and romance can distract students away from academics
  • Connections with adults are still important
