Established in 1955 by the visionary industrialist Mr. BM Birla, BIT Mesra was founded with a clear vision to offer its young minds a space, where their imagination could take wings and their ideas fruition. For over 6 decades now, the institute has nurtured minds with a rich heritage of academic excellence, developing learning frameworks that have been well ahead of times.
The Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry – the first of its kind in the country, was established in 1964 to train scientists and engineers in the important areas of Aerospace Engineering and Rocket Technologies. Since 1968, it has been offering a postgraduate degree course leading to M.Tech. in Space Engineering and Rocketry with in-depth specialization in two specific areas namely Aerodynamics and Rocket Propulsion. The Department aims to provide state-of-the-art education and training to its students to enable them to contribute efficiently in the national efforts being made in the fields of Space & Defense related technologies and challenging future missions. In past 60 years of existence, the Department produced several eminent alumni in the field of Aerospace and Rocket Technologies. The Department have had several sponsored research projects from ISRO, DRDO, CSIR, DST and others. The Department was granted support from DST FIST as well as UGC SAP in the past. And the second cycle support from DST FIST has been granted recently in 2023.
The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), a professional society to promote the growth of Aeronautics in India formed the CFD Division on August 11, 1998. This division serves as a formal setup for overseeing and coordinating conferences, colloquia, symposia and other technical meetings with a view of promoting research and development in industrial, academic and commercial areas of CFD. The division organizes a CFD symposium every year on its foundation day.
Recent events :
The 23rd Annual Symposium was held on the 11th and 12th of August 2022.
The Silver Jubilee Convention was held on the 11th of Aug 2023.
The division played a major role in organizing the Asian CFD Conference ACFD 2023 during 30th of October to 2nd of November, 2023.
Upcoming event :
For the first time since its inception, the CFD division has planned to conduct the annual symposium outside Bangalore. This year's symposium, AeSI CFD 2024, is planned at the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi during 11th to 13th of August.

Ranchi is well connected with all the cities through Rail, Road and Air. Direct trains and flights are available from all the major cities of the country. Connecting flights are also available with a short layover time.
The weather in the month of August is very pleasant and the temperature on an average varies from 30 degC (Max.) to 23 degC (Min.). The lush green campus of BIT Mesra is fascinating in this month.
