Which iPad?

My child is entering Year 3 in August 2025, what device do they need?

Your child will need an iPad with the following requirements:

All storage versions are supported in the BIS HCMC BYO iPad programme although we encourage parents to purchase an iPad with a minimum storage capacity of 64GB. Purchase of this storage size ensures that the life of the device will endure for three years or more. 32 GB should be sufficient. However, please understand that this will require regular storage management.

Your iPad must be able to operate the most current Apple operating system. It also needs to be able to install further iOS updates.

My child is entering Year 4, YEar 5 or Year 6 in 2025/2026, what device do they need?

Your child will need an iPad with the following requirements:

My child is entering Year 7 in 2025/2026, what device do they need?

Moving into Year 7, the expectation is that your child will have a laptop. Click here to refer to the BIS Secondary BYOD programme.

iPad Pro

Whilst the iPad Pro may meet the recommended storage and operating system, it is not required to purchase this device.

iPad Mini

Whilst the iPad Mini may meet the recommended storage and operating system, the smaller screen size is not optimal for all apps in the classroom. iPad Minis will not be able to be used.

Network: WiFi and Sim Cards

Whilst at school, students must connect to the school’s student network. This allows access to the Internet and other network facilities.

We do not recommend an iPad with cellular capabilities as this will allow your child unfiltered access to the internet as well as the potential for a large phone bill due to excessive cellular use.

Storage

The recommended storage for an iPad in an educational environment is 64GB/128GB.

- Items that can be stored on the iPad include: Apps, photos, videos, audio and other media.
- 64GB/128GB will enable students to store their work on the device without having to manage the content externally.

32 GB should be sufficient. However, please understand that this will require regular storage management.
