Students are grouped into Form Groups of around 24 students, supported and guided by a Form Tutor. Students meet their Form Tutor each morning for 20 minutes when they will prepare for the day ahead. The Form Tutor is responsible for the general welfare and guidance of students in the Form Group by developing a strong working relationship, monitoring academic progress and celebrating success, as well as developing routines to support this related to attendance, punctuality and ensuring homework is properly recorded and completed.

Your child’s Form Tutor is the first point of contact regarding matters that are not directly connected with a particular subject.

The Forms are grouped by Years (7-13), each overseen by a Head of Year.  Heads of Year take responsibility for the overall welfare and guidance of students in each cohort through monitoring and supporting each student’s wellbeing, progress and development.

The Year groups are also grouped into school sections:

●     Lower Secondary (Years 7, 8 & 9)

●     Middle Secondary (Years 10 & 11)

●     Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13)

Note: The name “Sixth Form” is a traditional English term that has its origins in the time when the years of compulsory secondary education were numbered 1-5, with the sixth and seventh years being the phase of post-compulsory education.  The numbering system now starts in primary school at age 4 (Year 1) and continues through to Year 13.  Years 12 and 13 are still traditionally referred to as the “Sixth Form”.

Together with the Advice, Support & Cousnelling Team of  Saskia Dodds Smith, Sara Morgan and An Ho, and our College and University Guidance Counselling Team  - Paul Rispin, and Sara Morgan  - our Form Tutors and Heads of Year make up the Welfare and Guidance Team.

Departments

The curriculum leadership in the school is organised into departments.  Each school subject area has a Head of Department. Most queries that parents have are handled by their children’s subject teachers. Occasionally, however, for more significant concerns the subject Head of Department may be involved.

Issues not resolved at the Head of Department level are referred to Mr Lee Falconer, Deputy Head Teacher.

Photographs and short biographical notes of teachers are organised into departments on the school website.
