BYOD
The British International School Riyadh is committed to bringing out the best in our students so they are able to take their productive place as effective global citizens. This is clearly defined in the school’s Vision and Mission, along with the REACH motto. As part of this commitment, BISR has always and continues to embrace technology so students can learn and develop the ever-changing skills necessary for lifelong learning in the 21st Century and beyond.
Why is this done?
Enquiring
For learning to effectively take place, students require immediate access to collect, create and share information. Mobile devices provide this and allow students to collaborate and feedback. This is in addition to traditional research and presentation tools.
Engaging
Learning is most powerful when it is real, meaningful and relevant. New technology already engages our students and it is important that we ensure they are equipped with the skills to use technology in a purposeful and productive way.
Enabling
Using such a device students are able to make choices in how they learn. It enables greater access to learning tools and opportunities to collaborate and communicate with others in school, locally and across the globe.
How is this implemented?
Students are required to bring to school their own personal device, every day fully charged.
There are clearly researched benefits and our year of remote learning has demonstrated the effectiveness of students and teachers having their own devices.
Students and teachers across the school have been using such devices already
Staff training using the devices as a learning tool has and will be ongoing
The best current applications for learning have been researched
Teachers will be clear on how and when the devices will be used and stored safely
All students will clearly understand the responsible use of devices (and other technology)
All applications will have an educational value and purpose
Request for applications will be kept to a minimum and be managed on a termly basis
The device is not a replacement for traditional learning tools (paper, pens and books).
