Preparing For Century

Grading Scale

Low GPAs, not passing classes, and dropping out are all possibilities of high school. As Horizon's school year is coming to an end people are mostly thinking about summer, but high school is also right around the corner for the 8th graders. High school can be taken as a very scary and intimidating place, but as the year has gone along, Horizon's teachers have done a great job in preparing students for the transition. “Teachers have been stricter on the homework and helping us convert our grades to letter grades,” an 8th grader Addi Nakagawa an 8th grader at Horizon. Another 8th grader, TJ Olson, said teachers like to use the phrase “that's not gonna fly in high school,” as another way to prepare 8th graders for the future. Three out of the four 8th grade students interviewed said that they are not scared for high school but more excited to be moving on.

Two Century students were interviewed to help provide 8th graders with some advice and perks about high school. Within the interviews they both said that friendships will change in high school, people start to hang out with kids in other grades, and that it is an awesome opportunity to spread your wings. Another great piece of advice that they both agreed on was that being involved in things like going to sporting events, being in clubs, and playing sports is a way to make your high school experience 100 times better. Finally both high schoolers were asked what their biggest take away from high school is. Dylan Denis, a freshman at Century, said, “Enjoy the good times because it goes by really fast.” Jayd Berg, a senior at Century, said, “You won't get along with everyone, just be kind to everyone.” Two students, 4 years apart, both give great advice for Horizon 8th graders to turn into wonderful Patriots.
