Blast from the past

We asked three 8th grade teachers what their favorite trends were, why they like them, and if they have recently come back into style. We had a lot of fun interviewing them and here are their answers.

Fitzgerald

By: Rhyan Haman

We interviewed Mrs. Fitzgerald last week about some questions we had for her. "What were some trends that were popular when you were younger? Have they come back, and did you like them?"

The response I got was pretty interesting. Starting off, she said that plaid pants were making a comeback, which was pretty ironic because she was wearing plaid pants the day I interviewed her. She said that plaid pants are very cute to wear any day. Another trend she said she enjoyed is the high wasted pants, even though Tufte said the complete opposite, Fitzgerald said they looked very cute with a lot of her outfits when she was younger. The day I interviewed her I was wearing a side ponytail and she said that for her senior pictures she actually was wearing a side ponytail, this was another trend that she participated in, that came back. Another trend she said she liked that came back were converse. A lot of girls at Horizon were converse, you can see a picture of them at the top of this section. One last trend that Mrs. Fitzgerald said she enjoyed as a kid were, leggings and a baggy crew neck or hoodie. She said that it was actually a trend that originated in England but soon was brought into America, which I thought was pretty cool. To sum it all up, I think interviewing Mrs. Fitzgerald was a great choice, and I got to find out a little more about her style, and what some trends she enjoyed when she was our age.

Tufte

What were some trends that were popular when you were younger? Have they come back and did you like them?

When I asked these questions to Ms. Tufte, on November 7, one of her immediate answers was leg warmers. She said that the style people wear them in is definitely different now then they were when she wore them. Now, she said, people might fold them over a pair of fall boots or another cute way to style them. She said if they wear them with a good outfit, you can make them look cute and trendy. But, she said it has to be worn correctly, ''no Jane Fonda arobic leg warmers.'' She likes this trend and is happy it is back. Another trend she likes is wearing denim jackets, she remember wearing them when she was our age and thinks they look great. ''Scrunchies can definitely add flair to a ponytail'' Tufte said. Even though she doesn't remember wearing them very often, she likes the way other people style them and add to their outfit. Even though we learned that Mrs. Fitzgerald loves high waisted jeans, Tufte said the complete opposite. She doesn't think they look good and does not see the need for them. Overall I had a lot of fun interviewing Ms. Tufte and learned a lot about her style and the trends she does and does not like. When I asked a few of my friends and people around the school what their favorite trends were, the answers were almost identical. Lots of people agreed that they like scrunchies, denim jackets, denim skirts, and a pair of converse.

Doppler

By: Arrianna Becker

We interviewed Mr.Doppler on 8th grade Dream Team. “What were some trends that were popular when you were younger? Have they come back and did you like them”?

Mr. Doppler said “kids passing notes”. I agree with that. Kids are starting to pass more notes in their classes this year. Doppler also said that he is surprised that Middle School dating has NOT come back. Although other teachers talked about clothing, Mr. Doppler talked about other stuff. For example things that kids are doing in his class. It was fun learning about the things that some of our teachers did in middle school.

Whats your Favorite place to eat and drink? Kaiden Campbell and Jake Burbidge asked 20 kids from each grade so 60 people, what their favorite Food location is to eat and drink and the top 3 were Five guys with 16 votes, Starbucks with 14 votes and Pancheros with 9 votes. So the top 3 got a total of 39 votes. The other 21 votes were other restaurants that did not make the top 3. As you may know there is quite a few starbucks in bismarck but most of the people we asked go to the one by lowes which is located in Pinehurst Square, on 1229 W century Ave. We noticed something that really interested us all top 3 are right by each other starbucks and pancheros are less than 15 seconds away from each other, and Five guys is a block away.

Five guys was the favorite place to eat/drink.

Starbucks came in as a close second.

Pancheros came in third.

Five Guys is known for their burgers and fries. Most of the people we asked love their juicy burgers and the Cajun seasoning because of the spicyness.

Starbucks is known for their coffee and tea refreshers. The most popular drinks are the Caramel frappuccino, green tea refresher, and the strawberry refresher. Last years best drink was the pink drink There was people bringing it to school.

Pancheros. Pancheros is a Mexican grill. It is a chain of fast casual tex mex restaurants in the united states serving Mexican style cuisine. pancheros is known for making their tortillas on site, at the time the order is placed. The people we asked like their steak quesadillas or their steak burritos they also like their rice in their burrito or quesadillas.
