Lessons are designed as one-on-one private instruction between your child and a master teacher. Private lessons will supplement skills learned in your child’s class, help diagnose and amend weaknesses, introduce them to advanced techniques, and provide musical enrichment through discussions of music history, theory, and performance practices.
Lessons will occur during orchestra class and after school depending on available times and are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Once enrolled in private lessons, it is the expectation that a student remains enrolled for the entire school year. This allows the student to continue to develop and refine their instrumental skills.
In most cases, lessons will occur weekly, unless makeup lessons are scheduled. Parents and instructors must determine lesson dates, and the instructor will then communicate those dates to the orchestra director for confirmation. Payment will be paid directly to the teacher, usually on a month-by-month basis, but other arrangements can be discussed with the individual instructor. All lessons will cost $1/minute. Middle school students may elect to have 30 or 45 minute lessons, and high school students may elect to have 45 or 60 minute lessons.
Private instructors reserve the right to enforce lesson policies, within reason, to ensure student/parent/teacher accountability. Instructors are expected to communicate with parents, and parents are expected to communicate with the instructors.
Prior notice is required if your child will miss a lesson, otherwise lessons may not be made-up. Emergencies do happen; When these occur, please contact the lesson instructor & orchestra director as soon as possible. Additionally, the lesson instructor is expected to communicate their absences and schedule make up lessons for said absences.
