Beginning with the graduating class of 2022, it is a graduation requirement to complete a FAFSA, TASFA, or to formally opt out of the financial aid requirement. Seniors planning to attend TCC using the BISD Endowed Scholarship (first year tuition paid for with scholarship) must complete a FAFSA or TASFA form.
Seniors will submit proof of the FAFSA requirement prior to graduation through Canvas.
Below are the three options to satisfy this requirement. You only need to complete one option.
The following items can be submitted as proof of financial aid completion. The student’s name must be visible on the document.

If key information is missing in the application, the student will receive an email from the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) asking them to correct the FAFSA form. A completed FAFSA will have all information necessary for processing and necessary to determine eligibility for federal, state, or other financial aid.
Following completion and submission, some students may be selected for a ‘verification’ process. This process is to ensure accuracy of the information provided through the FAFSA. If a student is selected for verification, institution of higher education (IHE) will request additional documentation. To meet the high school financial aid application graduation requirement, a student does not have to demonstrate completion of the information verification process.

To meet the definition of “complete and submit a TASFA,” the student must populate all applicable sections of the form and submit the application to at least one Texas institution of their choice. The TASFA is suggested for students who are Texas residents who are not eligible to apply for federal financial aid through the FAFSA. The process for TASFA submission may differ for students based on the institution of their choice. Although there is an available PDF version of the TASFA, an institution may have its own electronic form or paper form.

*Students planning to attend TCC using the BISD Endowed Scholarship are not eligible to opt-out*
A student may opt out of the financial aid application graduation requirement if:
a parent or guardian submits a signed form;
the student is 18 years of age or older and submits a signed form; or
a school counselor authorizes the student to decline to complete and submit the application for good cause.
If you choose to submit the opt-out form, you must print a copy and turn in the paper to the counseling office. There will be hard copies available in the counseling office. An uploaded submission will not be accepted for the opt-out form.
