What is dual credit?
Dual credit courses are classes in which students earn both high school and college credit. These courses count towards your high school AND college GPA.
Most classes are at BHS with a few at the BCTAL. Students can also take courses through TCC on their own through TCC Connect (online) or Northeast. Make sure to review the MOU found below to ensure your course will count as a high school credit.
Some are taught by TCC professors and some are taught by embedded BISD instructors. Reach out to your counselor to find out more information.
All students interested in taking a dual credit course MUST attempt the TSIA2 test. Some courses require a "college ready" score in order to register for the class. You can also qualify through SAT and ACT scores.
If you are taking an in-person dual credit course taught at BHS or the BCTAL, you will test during school hours. If you are interested in taking an online Dual Credit course through TCC Connect, you will need to sign up for the TSI through TCC. The process can be viewed here.
The Memorandum of Understanding linked here includes information regarding our partnership with TCC. All courses listed in the document are eligible for dual credit. Students need to make sure they are not taking classes they have already received high school credit for, or they will not count towards high school GPA.
When registering for a TCC Connect course, make sure the section number begins with 86xxx in order to get the high school credit.
Page 11 begins the list of approved courses. If you have questions on which high school credit is given for a certain course, please reach out to your counselor.
For more information on the high school credit connected to a Dual Credit course, please see the Dual Credit Crosswalks document here.
