About the Facility:
Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital is a level 1c facility with 117 inpatient operating beds. Staff provide a full continuum of both inpatient and outpatient services, and are committed to excellent patient care, education, and research. The facility offers comprehensive care to include primary care, medical and surgical specialties, behavioral health, physical and occupational therapy, pharmacy services, and more. Additionally, Truman VA is a referral center for heart care services to include open heart surgery.
Truman VA maintains strong affiliations with the University of Missouri’s School of Medicine, the MU Sinclair School of Nursing, the MU School of Health Professions, and other health-related programs. Truman VA provides training opportunities for approximately 1,000 students each year.
Pharmacy Service employs 70 pharmacists, to include 23 clinical pharmacist practitioners.
Program Purpose:
Purpose: The PGY1 residency program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education. They will be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities, to include postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

Qualifications:
Doctor of pharmacy degree from an accredited school or college of pharmacy
Eligible for pharmacist licensure in any U.S. state within 120 days of start of residency
