About us and our purpose:
Cleveland Clinic Akron General is a 532-bed acute-care, teaching hospital and level I trauma center that has been serving the healthcare and wellness needs of Akron and the surrounding communities for 110 years.
The mission of the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Internship program is to foster the development of essential personal and intellectual attributes of pharmacy interns in such a way that they are able to function as competent practitioners.
Program Introduction:
Our program is a year-round paid internship consisting of a full-time 12-week summer component from mid-May to mid-August and an average of one out of every three weekends throughout the academic year. This longitudinal learning and working experience can span the length of pharmacy school P1-P4 years, but the 12-week summer block only occurs the summers after P1 and P2 coursework are completed.
The 12-week summer experience includes required rotations in central pharmacy operations, sterile and non-sterile compounding, and elective clinical rotations. Clinical rotations available include: Ambulatory Care, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Leadership, Medication Safety, Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Neurocritical ICU, Oncology and Infusion Pharmacy, Opioid Stewardship, Family Medicine and Supply Chain Management. Additionally, each intern will be assigned projects and/or presentations at the discretion of their primary preceptor or the program coordinator.
Eligibility
Each candidate must be enrolled within an professional doctor of pharmacy program, have an active internship license and be in good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy. Only fully completed applications will be reviewed. Offers will be made contingent on the applicant obtaining an Ohio internship license and the ability to work weekends throughout the academic year. Entry into this internship program is competitive and students will be evaluated on various parameters including career goals, prior experience, communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic team atmosphere. Candidates should be available for a 30 minute Microsoft Teams interview in October or November as part of the interview and application process.
