Vaccine Clinic at the Medicine Shoppe

Description of activity:
The Medicine Shoppe, in collaboration with APhA-ASP, is hosting a Vaccine Clinic open to P2 and P3 students! The clinic will start on Saturday 19th and will occur every Saturday until October 31st. We are seeking two students per time slot to provide vaccinations, handle all necessary documentation and paperwork, and educate patients. This clinic is a great opportunity to develop clinical skills, enhance patient communication, and gain confidence in immunization practices. Please only sign up for one slot so other students have the opportunity to participate!

We will be visiting a second-grade class at Homer Brink Elementary School on two dates:

During the visit, pharmacy student volunteers will give a brief presentation introducing students to what pharmacists do and teaching them how to recognize the difference between medications and candy.
Following the presentation, students will participate in two activities:

The presentation and activities have already been prepared, with clear instructions provided. Volunteers will simply need to read through the presentation and activity instructions and help guide the students through the activities.

P3 Sterile Compounding Mentorship Lab

This lab offers P3s a valuable opportunity to refine their clinical evaluation skills, practice interprofessional peer mentorship, and reinforce cleanroom quality assurance standards. Working alongside technician colleagues will play a major role in our future careers, and this co-curricular provides excellent practice with this essential aspect of the profession!

Free Hormonal Contraception CE

The NY Birth Control Access Project is thrilled to host a FREE hormonal contraception CE on September 23rd - this includes pharmacy students like yourself! In addition to receiving 2 CE credits, satisfactory completion of this course will provide authorization to dispense birth control, in the form of the pill, patch, and the ring without a prescription from an external provider (PCP, OBGYN, NP).
Note: Prescriptive authority for birth control will be granted upon graduation and successful completion of the pharmacy board exams.
This training will include step-by-step instructions on selecting appropriate birth control methods for new and existing patients, navigating medical forms, billing codes, and more. By the time you leave, you will walk away with the confidence to practice at the top of your license.
This is an opportunity to directly expand patient access points and advance practice transformation for the pharmacy profession.

This community fundraising and awareness event, hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), supports suicide prevention research, education, advocacy, and community programming. As pharmacy students and future healthcare professionals, this event provides a meaningful opportunity to engage with the community, promote mental health awareness, and support initiatives dedicated to suicide prevention.

There is no need to register prior to the event; just make sure to sign in with AAPP President Ariel Yosha or Vice-President Ruby Zou upon arrival. Please note that anyone arriving after 11:00 AM will not receive attendance credit for the co-curricular event.

APhA-ASP will be hosting ambulatory care pharmacists and SOPPS professors Dr. Leppien, Dr. Pauling, and Dr. Clark to share their experiences as ambulatory care pharmacists and preceptors. They will provide an inside look at their practice sites, including the role of ambulatory care pharmacists, the types of patients and conditions they manage, and how students are involved in patient care during their rotations. Speakers will also discuss what students can expect from an ambulatory care rotation, including common responsibilities, opportunities to develop clinical skills, and tips for making the most of the experience. This event will give students an opportunity to learn more about the diverse roles within ambulatory care pharmacy, ask questions, and feel more prepared when considering and ranking their experiential sites. The Office of Experiential Education will be providing food for students to enjoy during the event.
American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Local Clinical Skills Competition

What: The ASHP Local Clinical Skills Competition is a patient case that is worked on by a team of 2 students. The patient case is the same patient case that is given to all pharmacy schools in the United States. Resources that you can use include electronic databases, Lexicomp, UpToDate, and internet access. I've attached the ASHP Clinical Skills Competition student handbook that you can refer to for additional information and frequently asked questions. When: Wednesday, October 7th at 6PM via Zoom. You will have two hours to complete the patient case.
Why: The winning team will earn free registration to the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Orlando to participate in the National Clinical Skills Competition on December 5th. The second winning team (must be P3 students) will participate in the New York State Council of Health-System Pharmacists (NYSCHP) Student Clinical Competition in Saratoga Springs, NY in April 2026

Description of activity:
This posting includes several Wegmans flu clinics taking place this Fall in Binghamton and Ithaca. These clinics are a great opportunity to practice your vaccination skills and get more comfortable vaccinating a variety of patients!
Each clinic will have 2 students working alongside a Wegmans pharmacist preceptor such as Dr. Lynch or Dr. Khalid. Students who sign up for these clinics should come prepared to administer flu shots.
- Thursday 9/10 at SOPPS from 11:30am - 2pm (P2 only)
- Tuesday 9/15 at Binghamton Physical Facilities on main campus from 6:30am - 8:30am
- Thursday 9/24 at Binghamton ITC on main campus from 11:30am - 1pm
- Wednesday 10/14 at Brookdale Nursing Facility in Vestal from 1pm - 3pm (Fall break)
- Thursday 10/15 at Cornell Vet College in Ithaca from 8:30am - 1:30pm (Fall break)
- Saturday 10/17 at Wegmans in Ithaca from 10am - 1pm (Fall break - this clinic can accept up to 4 students)

Please carefully review the locations and times - some of the clinics are in Ithaca which is about 60 minutes by car. Please note that the Ithaca clinics will include lunch.

Vaccinations are a vital component of practice in our pharmaceutical careers. If you want to learn more about their use and development against serious diseases, make sure to attend this event! Our guest speaker, Dr. Daigle, currently works for Pfizer as a Vaccines Field Medical Director. He has over 12 years of experience in pharmaceuticals and the medical industry, so he is a great resource for us to learn more about vaccination use! He wrote a brief summary about the concepts he will be discussing, which is posted below:
Vaccination is one of the most consequential public-health interventions in modern medicine. This session will introduce core vaccine concepts and explore how new technologies are helping to address the continuing burden of COVID-19, RSV, and pneumococcal disease in adult populations.
NMDP Stem Cell Donor Registry Drive

Description of activity:
The Oncology Pharmacy Student Organization (OPSO) and NMDP (formerly Be The Match) are hosting a stem cell donor registry drive. Stop by the information table to learn how blood stem cell and bone marrow donation help patients with blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma, and what joining the registry involves. Anyone ages 18 to 40 who meets NMDP’s health guidelines can join on site at no cost with a short registration form and a cheek swab.
