Research Centers

Center for Development and Behavioral Neuroscience

The Center for Development and Behavioral Neuroscience brings together many faculty and graduate students with common interests from multiple research backgrounds within the behavioral neuroscience field. Both the Center and the department frequently sponsor guest scientists as colloquium speakers or as visiting researchers. The CDBN also provides Travel Fellowships and Assistantships for graduate students.

Developmental Exposure Alcohol Research Center

The Developmental Exposure Alcohol Research Center (DEARC) is a NIAAA-funded P50 Center which provides research funding to many of the labs in Behavioral Neuroscience. The DEARC focuses on two early developmental periods during which alcohol exposure is most prevalent, including prenatal alcohol exposure through maternal consumption, and adolescence, a time when binge drinking is common. The DEARC is one of only 8 neuroscience-directed Specialized Alcohol Research Centers funded by NIAAA, and provides broad support for many labs within and beyond Binghamton University.

Brain and Body Imaging Research Center

Slated to begin providing access to a best-in-class Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma 3T research-grade scanner in 2022, the Center - a joint venture between Binghamton University and United Health Services (UHS; the largest healthcare provider in the Southern Tier) - is directed by BNS faculty member Dr. David Jentsch. The Center's magnetic resonance imaging scanner will provide faculty, staff and students at Binghamton University the ability to conduct cutting-edge research on the human nervous system. Structural/anatomical, functional and molecular profiling of healthy persons and clinical populations are also possible with the resources of the Center.
