Evidence- "Middle School Monday" logo that will be once a
month where I will attend with my mentees to help them further
their own learning. I will help out with and be
apart of each of them for either just simply the "friendship" aspect of being new to a school or to help mentor on a certain topic.
What was the most valuable part of the TLI process for you? What are your next steps to continue your growth as a teacher leader?
The most valuable part of the TLI process for me was talking to so many people I normally would not have. Just the everyday routine was disrupted and allowed me to talk, interview and reflect with lots of my colleagues. I also found that they were invested in what I wanted to do and in turn would seek me out to talk. My next steps are to take my checklist and create a "Survival Guide" for new hires in Billings Public Schools. There is a need for it and TLI has allowed me to quickly recognize the needs
and to do something about it.
Reflect Questions: At which level (emerging, developing, performing, or transforming) do you NOW place yourself for each of your four chosen competencies?
Overarching Competency # 1
In interpersonal effectiveness, I was at the developing stage but honestly feel like I am now at the transforming stage. This is the largest leap in any of the competencies because it was the most natural for me to begin with. In the "indicators of growth" section it talks about having others identify areas of growth and personal development and that is what I am doing with the mentoring program . I am also hosting events for new teachers that is student-centered and training them which is all under the transforming stage.
Overarching Competency # 2
In adult learning I was at the emerging stage and honestly I don't think I moved much. I did a lot of research on different websites on how to teach adults and how to cater to their learning styles, but I just need more practice with diverse adult learns to truly feel like I am even developing. I am starting a new book literally called How to Teach Adults and am hoping this will give me more insight .
Foundational Competency
In Collaborate Purposefully I was at emerging and feel like I have moved over to developing. In the "Evidence" section it talks about self- reflection in knowing your limits with certain cultural groups. Since I have been doing TLI I have had the chance to talk to lots of people and now feel confident that I have a good support system on who I can rely on for skills, practices or help .
Leadership Pathway Competency
In instructional leadership, coaching and mentoring I was at developing and truly think I am at transforming. I currently am knee deep in helping create, plan, book and lead a new mentoring system with our union as well as the school district. It was exactly what I wanted to do with my capstone project and hope that I can support as many teachers as possible.
How did the TLI experience impact your growth as a teacher leader in each of your four chosen competencies?
The TLI process was very purposeful in allowing me to see certain things I never thought of. Like biases, who we interview, where we get our data from and what people are important when we make certain decision. Yes I had a goal already in mind before TLI; however the structure allowed me to accomplish what I needed to while evaluating what a good leader needs to be aware of.
Collaborate purposefully- Looking at data , how to create good data and looking at the groups I collaborate to make sure I am cognizant of all individuals
Interpersonal effectiveness- How to communicate efficiently and effectively
Adult learning- To actually sit down and study the brain of an adult and how they learn.
Coaching and mentoring- TLI just really solidified where I want to continue in my own career as a mentor.
Evidence #24
This book I am reading to help me understand adults needs in their own learning process.
