Evidence #21 Completed TLI project that is being implemented in our new middle school mentoring program. I will be presenting on this to the new middle school hires for my district on August 10th.
Evidence #20- Awarded a grant to help mentoring teachers across my district in technology as well as a middle school outlined mentoring program. Shelly Stanton wrote the grant to include educators to get out and teach other educators and I was lucky enough to be asked to be apart of it.
Evidence #20 Continued- I have learned a lot about how to give trainings , how to communicate and lead from these women. Most of them are giving summer trainings to teachers from all schools, backgrounds and years of experience.
Identify the part(s) of your plan you were able to implement . How successful was your action plan at addressing the challenge?
I was able to implement exactly what I set out to do on my plan. I was able to talk to people and set aside time to finish the checklist. I did not run into any challenges besides the challenge of time management on my part.
Which stakeholders and association practice or program were impacted?
Because of the grant that was awarded, I am able to receive compensation through the Education Foundation as well as the National Educational Association to be apart of the mentoring program rolling out my checklist to all 6 middle schools in my district. I believe that the union will get more members that are new to our district because everyone who is a mentor is part of the union and has a good outlook on its benefits.
I also believe that my administration is greatly impacted because my project gets teachers ready for success and not failure. It takes the burden off of them and shifts the support to the mentors in the building.
How do you know (site evidence)?
Towards the end of the year, I was getting forwarded emails to support, help and advise on new hires. It allowed me to feel apart of a deeper structure in the educational system than just teaching students. I have now gained the trust and value of my administration where I am receiving more accountability to help others.
What obstacles, if any, did you encounter? How did you address them?
The biggest obstacles that I encountered was the fact that I needed to create another checklist for the SPED department. The reason for that was the high number of new hires in all middle schools. I needed to interview a couple more people and did so with two former SPED teachers that are now in different positions.
Given the outcomes, describe any changes you might make to the Capstone Project’s action plan.
Honestly, I was able to stick to a strict plan due to not having a lot of wiggle room to move things. I meet, talked and emailed the people I needed to and was able to create a checklist that I truly believe will guide and support other teachers.
Evidence# 22 - Special education teacher check list after looking at the amount of new hires in this department.
