Do

Identify the part(s) of your plan you were able to implement (given the nature of leadership work, your project may actually continue beyond submission of your capstone portfolio).

My plan was able to begin as soon as I knew what I needed to do for our team. I was accepted into our curriculum group, serving on a discussion panel, (Communication - Transforming) and had a better understanding of what our SuperIntendent was wanting from us. My turn to host the PLC's happened in February. I was able to mange group dynamics with proficiency and effectiveness. Some PLC's more so than others. You will see in the Image Carousel [Evidence#1]on leading successful PLC's. (Performing in Group Process)

I was also able to continue my new profound leadership skills into COVID-19 closure. We continued to work on our YAG's and were able to complete 1st, 3rd, 5th PE and 5th Health by the end of the school year. [Evidence #2]

Once our YAGS were completed I was now able to begin my capstone project of creating a host place for all grades YAGS and games. I reached our to my two TILT teachers and another PE teacher, who has the most experience out of this little group, and asked for their help [Evidence #3] The small group of teachers I had reached out to have a combined 50 years of teaching experience. We are working collaboratively toward a goal to help mentor new PE teaching coming into this district as an Elementary PE teacher. (DECCS Collaborate Purposefully - Transforming)

Here is a run down on the group of people I reached out to:

  • A is a male who has been teaching for 18 years, he teaches at a title school and travels between schools,

  • B is a female who has been teaching for 17 years, she was recently moved to a full time school where she no longer needs to travel, she has also encountered many health problems throughout the last 5 years,

  • C is a female teacher who is very tech savvy, she has been teaching for 9 years and is also on the curriculum team,

  • Then there is me who is a female who has been teaching for 6 years and travels between a title school and non title school.

In joining this group of teachers together I am connecting with colleagues to meet one another's needs, also to participate in a constructive, collaborative culture to meet those needs of my plan (Instructional, Facilitating Collaborative Relationships - Performing)

How successful was your plan of action at addressing the challenge? Which stakeholders and practice or program were impacted? How do you know (site evidence)?

During the COVID-19 portion of the school year I was in constant communication with one of my stakeholders, my Liaison. He looks over our group of PE teachers. This gentleman has 29 years of experience, starting his teaching career when I was just 2 years old. I shared with him my project as is (rough draft, buttons in place, scratchy looking) and his response was very comforting that my capstone will benefit our team by leading this new creation for other/new teachers to foster and help them meet the needs of our SuperIntendent. (Be better at following a concise pacing guide) [Evidence 4] (Instructional - Facilitating Collaborative Relationships- Transforming) - Bringing together a diverse perspective and context by uniting them in shared work and vision

How were your four chosen competencies used in the implementation of your project?

All four of my competencies that I chose were based around some type of communication and a shared vision. I knew I needed to work with closely with my stakeholders and in order to be successful you need good communication skills from being able to pass information and understand information from one person to another, needing to have courtesy and provide clarity, also to be considerate and consistent. - OA1 Communication, OA2 Group Process, DEEC Collaborate Purposefully, Pathway Facilitating collaborative relationships.

My capstone is one step further than our PLC task. In taking this journey my biggest change has been my mindset on how group dynamics look. I was so narrow minded when it came to Diversity, Equity and Culture within a group. A task we completed at our second TLI face to face really helped me see things in a different way {Evidence #5] This boat holds teachers, parents, school board members and more who are all holding different oars. The oars are representing their advantages and disadvantages. For example, Race, Gender, Degree can all play a role in how you are perceived. This boat is also holding people who get a free ride, people who were never asked, and people who do the minimum to get by. This boat is being pushed by the government and ran by the Admin. My understanding of this boat is that we are all riding the same wave and regardless to who we are, where we come from, how much money we make, our race, gender, or trauma we have encountered we are all in this together. We need to use peoples strengths and encourage them to challenge their weaknesses. Before taking TLI, I don't know if I would have looked at that boat and read it in that way.

When looking at how I can evolve in my pathway competency, Facilitating Collaborative Relationships, I really focused on certain evidence while unpacking it. I needed to connect with and support colleagues [Evidence #3]. I feel that I did this while collaborating with my peers on our game rules.

What obstacles, if any, did you encounter? How did you address them?

One of the biggest obstacles I encountered during this process was the school closure due to COVID-19. I was able to continue with my project as we were gathering in groups via zoom to finish our PLC tasks. Completing our Year at a Glance [Evidence #2]

Given the outcomes, describe any changes you might make to the Capstone project plan of action.

I don't believe I would change anything about my capstone. I am excited to see how it is used next fall. I will continue this summer to finalize my site and push it out to my colleagues.

An off topic DO that I DID

During COVID19 Distance Learning I seen a post on facebook where a teacher in NJ was looking for some other PE teachers to collaborate with her to create a virtual Olympics. SO WHY WOULD I NOT JUMP IN ON THAT.... Well check this out!

To be honest - If I wasn't in TLI and looking at ways to become a teacher leader I might not have jumped on this great idea!

We met 3 times on zoom meetings where ALL teachers could collaborate. We're talking WORLD WIDE! 6:00am zoom call for Montana but a 10:30pm zoom call for my teaching friend in Australia.

First meeting without Daniel (Aust)

Sharing and being shared via social media

The emailing back and forth didn't stop! We all shared so many ideas!

deciding on sports for distance learning.mp4

Just a little bit of collaboration on how to determine what sports we will all cover :) Just listen to all those accents :)

Kim Anthony shout out.mp4

This was the most rewarding part of doing a collaboration project like this during Covid-19. This is my Curriculum Director who gave a shout out specifically to myself and other colleague on our work during this tough time.
