I have been trying to learn as much as possible about the ecology of the BCCER and its history in terms of succession, particularly changes resulting from human activities. I also look for ways animals utilize habitats and specific plants. Then I experiment with manipulating parts of the environment to reduce fire danger, store carbon, reduce succession resulting from fire suppression, improve habitat for specific animals, and shift plant dominance from invasive weeds to native plants. I also experiment with manipulating ephemeral streams to keep water on the land longer, reduce erosion, and create habitat for hydrophytes and amphibians.
