Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program - Summer Internship Law Firm

The Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program is an intensive paid program which places high-achieving inner-city high school students with legal employers for the summer, and provides them with additional programming before, during, and after the summer designed to help them prepare for a legal career.
Students are selected to participate in the Program based upon personal interviews and demonstrated academic excellence. They are first nominated by their schools and then interviewed at the New York City Bar; this process consists of face-to-face meetings with the students and a written test that is administered to determine comfort with challenges common in an office environment. Job assignments in firms vary depending on the needs of the employer, but typically include assisting paralegals, filing, record keeping, assisting library and back-office personnel, data entry and document and exhibit organization.

Angel Del Toro Leadership Institute

LAB Jumpstart

LAB Jumpstart is a new component of the Science Outreach Program that will utilize the Science Outreach and Education Laboratory for student and teacher training. Youth Insights Artists

Tech360 Program

TECH360 Squad is a 10 week after-school program for 10th and 11th graders enrolled in New York City high schools. Students enrolled in the program learn the fundamentals of web design and development. Courses take place at companies in New York City and are taught by tech professionals.

BlueStamp Engineering is a six-week, hands-on summer program where high school students build technology projects they’re passionate about. Each student selects their own projects and completes the program with 2 projects (which they keep). They also develop their own personal online portfolio that details their journey with videos, technical descriptions of their work, milestones, and blog postings.This personal portfolio can then be shared with colleges and prospective employers. In past summers, students created omnidirectional robots, infinity mirror tables, CNC drawing machines, 3D printed robotic hands, vacuum robots, voice controlled robots, automated smart homes, computer vision ball tracking robots and many more.
Perry Outreach Program

The Perry Outreach Program is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school women who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Students will hear from women leaders in these fields and try it for themselves by performing mock orthopaedic surgeries and biomechanics experiments.

Joint Science Education Project (JSEP)
Application Deadline: January 31st
JSEP is a three-week field experience in Greenland scheduled for summer 2019. Selected students from the U.S., Denmark and Greenland live and work together while exploring current Arctic research and completing their own inquiry-based projects. The program includes two weeks of extensive field experiences near Kangerlussuaq and a final week at Summit Station, the U.S. research facility located at the top of the Greenland ice sheet. For JSEP, you must be in the 11th grade at the time of application.

Joint Antarctic School Expedition (JASE)

JASE is a 1-2 week program that takes place in King George Island, Antarctica, scheduled for winter 2019. Students from the United States join a Chilean high school expedition to Escudero Base on King George Island. The program includes visits to international research stations and field sites in Antarctica and to the Chilean Antarctic Institute in the Patagonia region of Chile. For JASE, you must be in the 10th or 11th grade at time of application AND fluent in Spanish.

The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) STEAM

Education initiative, in conjunction with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and the NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), is accepting applications for its upcoming summer internship programs. The agency will select 30 students from public and private high schools across the five boroughs to participate in a six-week paid summer internship program that will provide students an opportunity to explore careers in the fields of architecture, engineering, construction, design, law, business administration, and finance from the perspective of the public sector.
Sonia and Celina Sotomayor Judicial Internship Program (SCS JIP)

The Sonia and Celina Sotomayor Judicial Internship Program is now accepting applications from current high school juniors (rising seniors) for its summer 2018 internship program. Students from under served communities will be exposed to careers in law through an internship with a judge in state or federal courts throughout New York City. The program will also consist of weekly seminars, including sessions on college preparation, essay writing, professional skills, legal research and writing, and exploring different legal career options. The NYC DOE Office of Food and Nutrition Services is offering the Summer Apprenticeship Program

High School employees that gain work experience in Food & Nutrition kitchens and cafeterias during the Summer Meals Program. They assist with varied tasks in addition to serving meals to over 1,000 Community-Based Organizations and the children of New York City. Food & Nutrition provides the Summer Apprentice Workers the opportunity of employment and learning transferable food-related skills. ieSProject TRUE — Citywide

Project TRUE interns work at either the Bronx, Central Park or Prospect Park Zoo while searheading their own research project to encompass experimental design, research methods and data analysis, with the help of Fordham University graduate students and Wildlife Conservation Society educators. Some weekend workdays are required, and unexcused absences will result in dismissal. (Teens can also pay to participate as part of a different Teen Intern program, or volunteer as a Discovery Guide.) A $599 stipend and MetroCard are provided.

NASA Internships are educational hands-on opportunities that provide unique NASA-related research and operational experiences for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students as well as educators. These internships integrate participants with career professionals emphasizing mentor-directed, degree-related, real-time world task completion. In addition, there are non-technical internship opportunities to engage in professional activities which support NASA business and administrative processes. Department School for Youth (DSY)
The Development School for Youth (DSY) is a leadership and development training program for young people between the ages of 16 and 21. The students attend weekly workshops led by senior executives from some of NYC’s leading corporations, cultural institutions, hedge funds and law firms. They also participate in workshops including: public speaking, how to interview and resume writing. Throughout the program, they work to develop their professional performance; and by participating in practicums such as street organizing, phone shifts and staffing events, they develop their leadership performance.
**Note: Students who successfully graduate from DSY are placed in paid summer internships provided by sponsoring companies.

Summer Internship Program (“SIP”)

NYC School Construction Authority offers a Summer Internship Program (“SIP”) for 125 college-bound NYC public high school students. SIP is designed to provide students with exposure to a wide range of careers within the public and private sectors. This is accomplished through a paid, six-week internship at the SCA or with one of our business partners throughout New York City. They seek to provide interns with a diverse internship experience along with career mentoring. Assignments may include maintaining files, organizing documents, managing spreadsheets, conducting internet research, attending meetings, and drafting for students with AutoCAD/Revit proficiency. Students may attend limited supervised visits to construction sites.
Students recommended for SIP are expected to meet the following eligibility criteria:
1. Be a New York City public high school student;
2. Have an interest in one or more of the following career interest areas: architecture, engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, structural and or environmental), construction management, business, information technology, real estate and or public administration;
3. Have a grade point average of 80 or higher;
4. Be available to work full time from July 6 -August 14, 2020; and
5. Be able to provide original proof of authorization to work in the United States during the SIP registration process during the first week in June at the SCA: this includes original unexpired I-9 documentation and original age appropriate working papers (for those born after July 6, 2002).

The New York County District Attorney’s High School Internship Program

The New York County District Attorney’s High School Internship Program is a rigorous internship that provides students with an insider’s view of the criminal justice system. Each intern is assigned to a unit within the Office and helps Assistant District Attorneys and other staff members with their work. Interns also attend presentations and trips and participate in a mock trial competition.
For nearly 30 years, the program’s interns have represented a variety of public, independent, and parochial schools from the diverse communities of Manhattan. We will be accepting applications in February from bright and promising students who are interested in serving their communities. Interns receive a $175 weekly stipend.

THE 2020 HNBF FUTURE LATINO LEADERS SUMMER LAW INSTITUTE

The Future Latino Leaders Summer Law Institute is designed to provide Latino high school students like you with the opportunity to learn more about the legal profession. This year, the Law Institute will take place from July 11-19, 2020, in Washington, D.C. All participants will stay on the George Washington University Foggy Bottom Campus and be chaperoned by adult law school students and HNBF staff. Throughout the week, students will engage in workshops on leadership and receive legal instruction in preparation for the Mock Trial. Students will have the opportunity to meet with lawyers, judges, and officials of the United States government and learn about their career paths.

The NYC Ladders for Leaders program, a component of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), provides professional internships to NYC youth between the ages of 16 to 22. This competitive process differs from the traditional SYEP model in that it requires applicants to submit an application to one of several community-based organizations (CBO) serving the five boroughs. Applications are evaluated based on academic performance, response to an essay question, and resume. Once participants have been selected, they are engaged in 30-hours of pre-employment training designed to teach essential workplace readiness skills and business etiquette. Interviews for summer internships are scheduled by our partnering CBO’s in a variety of industries from the public and private sectors. Final selections for the six-week internship are made by our partnering employers.

West Side YMCA Teen Career Connection — Upper West Side*

Created 17 years ago because of the difficulty teenagers have finding summer jobs, the Career Connection spends two weeks teaching interns skills like conflict resolution, dressing for success and public speaking. The rest of the program is spent mentoring students through six weeks of work at multiple locations, followed by a Portfolio Night where each presents about their experiences. Interns receive a $2,250 stipend, $300 clothing stipend, and two monthly MetroCards.

AgDiscovery is a FREE outreach program to help students explore careers in animal science, veterinary medicine, agribusiness, plant pathology, and much more. This 2-4 week program allows participants to live on a college campus and learn about agricultural science from university professors, practicing veterinarians, industry representatives, and professionals working for the U.S. government. Summer STEM Program at The Cooper Union — East Village

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with paid summer employment for up to six weeks in July and August. Participants work in entry-level jobs in a variety of industries including:

Forest Project at Wave Hill —Bronx

This rigorous, five-day a week, two month physical and academic internship teaches kids about ecology in an urban setting via interns building and maintaining woodland trails, removing invasive plant species, shoring up eroded slopes and helping restore disturbed woodland toward a more balanced state. $2275 for first-year interns, $2375 for second-years.
Stella Adler Free Summer Acting Program
The centerpiece of the Outreach Division, this program currently interviews close to 100 high school students annually and selects 18 to train in a free year-long program, with a possible second year by invitation. Students train in voice, movement, improv and acting in a conservatory environment. They are led by the Studio’s world-class faculty, and engage daily with students of the full-time conservatory programs as well as alumni and international guest artists. While Adler Youth students are trained with the same intensity and integrity as conservatory students, this program is not concerned with creating professional actors, but rather empowering strong, confident, thoughtful human beings.

Interns help out in one of three different District Attorney’s offices, as well as attend special presentations and field trips, and take part in mock trial competitions. Interns receive a weekly stipend of $175.
PreK through grade 12 students can apply now to attend exciting science and STEM programs being offered this summer at the NYC Department of Education’s Environmental Study Center and NYC Center for Space Science Education, the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Museum of the City of New York, New York Aquarium, Prospect Park Zoo, Queens Botanical Garden, Queens County Farm Museum, Queens Zoo, Staten Island Museum, Staten Island Zoo, and SUNY Old Westbury. Sustainability at Poly Prep Country Day School. Poly Prep cordially invites highly motivated rising high school students to join us this summer for the Sustainable Societies Academy™ (SSA), an intensive 5-day session from August 14-18, led by faculty and leading professionals from UPenn, Harvard, CUNY, and other universities. In our second year, students will learn the basic concepts and principles of sustainability through college-level presentations, small group discussion, interactive workshops, and site visits. By the end of the program, SSA students will be equipped to integrate their interests and concerns to develop solutions to social, economic, and environmental sustainability challenges in their own communities.

GO Getter Internships

The GO Project summer internship is an opportunity for high school students to learn and develop leadership skills while working with GO Project students in academic and/or enrichment classes. During the 5-week GO Summer program, interns will be working as teaching assistants in one of our K-5th grade classrooms under the guidance of a Head Teacher or Enrichment Teacher. This is a free, four-week summer program on the Upper East Side. During the program, Youth Scholars will participate in rigorous academic curriculum: lectures on physiology and anatomy, participate in anatomy labs, engage in problem-based learning objectives, interact with medical students and physicians, and many other facets of medicine. The curriculum consists of basic science lectures (primarily given by medical students, residents, and physicians), faculty spotlight sessions, Problem Based Learning sessions, mentor/mentee sessions, and visit to the anatomy lab. The topics discussing during the lectures included medial ethics, organ systems biology, nutrition, infectious disease, embryology, disease pathogenesis, immunology, and chronic conditions.
