Math Practice 3:  Math Arguments

A Math Argument is composed of the conjecture, the evidence to support or disprove the conjecture and the conclusion.

Math argument Do's:

• Use stated assumptions, definitions, facts and previous results.

• Make conjectures.

• Build a logical progression of statements.

• Explore the truth of the conjectures.

• Justify conclusions.

• Communicate the conjectures made and evidence to support.

• Respond to critiques, suggestions, corrections.

• Compare the effectiveness of two plausible Math arguments.

• Hear and read arguments of others.
