Go Guardian Tips for Engaging Students:
Start a session with NO SCENE activated to monitor student activity and chat with students as needed!
During this virtual learning period, do NOT have scenes running during any Go Guardian sessions. This will prevent students from completing their academic work in other classes.
If you have co-teachers on your classroom, anyone logged in and monitoring the session will ALL receive the chat messages. Go Guardian sessions treat ALL the teachers as ONE teacher. Chat messages are not labeled with individual teacher names, so students may not know who is talking to them. Remember to say, "Hey! This is Mrs. Martinez!"
If you need to engage in a private chat with a student, create a classroom for this purpose with NO CO-TEACHERS. Pull individual students into sessions so you can chat with them as needed.
Chat history can be found and printed after a session has concluded. The chat history is preserved within the session history.
Students CAN be in MULTIPLE session and chatting with many teachers simultaneously!
Do NOT activate SCENES during our closure! Leave the default scene as NONE.
Remember to "add teachers" to your classroom who also work with your students
Use the "OPEN TAB" feature to directly open Google Meet sessions on student Chromebooks (this way they don't even need the link!)
You could also use the OPEN TAB feature to directly open a Google Meet session for small groups of students that you want to have a discussion with
When multiple teachers are attached to ONE classroom, all the chats for a single student are grouped together, and students often can't tell who they are speaking with.
Feel free to create a separate GG classroom, and you can add and remove specific students from that classroom when you are working with different student groups (use their emails)
Use the "Sessions" area to see past sessions, past chat history, and other information from past sessions
Remember, only ONE person can import a classroom from Google Classroom. Whomever does this, then needs to add additional teachers to this classroom who needs access to the class.
Alternative ways to participate in discussions with kids: Padlet, using a shared Whiteboard, use shared Google docs with individual students as a journal between a teacher and student
