Week 6
Monday, August 31: Students practiced the grammar structures that we learned last week from Unit 1 Lesson 1A and we started looking at some other verbs. We will have a grammar quiz on Friday over this lesson's grammar. (past tense, recent past, how long ago something happened, etc.).
Tuesday, September 1: Students practiced the 2nd grammar structure (vouloir, pouvoir, devoir). Study the grammar that we have learned so far this week and prepare for a grammar quiz on Friday of this week.
Wednesday, September 2: Students practiced the grammar and then worked on a project in class.
Week 5
Monday, August 24: Students began to study and practice Unit 1 Lesson 1A vocabulary about food. Make a minimum of 30 flashcards for the Lesson 1A vocabulary (not 1B, just 1A) by Wednesday, August 26th. Number your flashcards so that it is easy for me to check them (1-30). We will have a vocab quiz and dictation over Lesson 1A vocab at on Friday, August 28th.
Tuesday, August 25: Students practiced the new vocab. The homework is to make a minimum of 30 flashcards for the Lesson 1A vocabulary (not 1B, just 1A) by Wednesday, August 26th. Number your flashcards so that it is easy for me to check them (1-30). We will have a vocab quiz and dictation over Lesson 1A vocab at on Friday, August 28th.
Wednesday, August 26: Students practiced the vocabulary and they learned some other uses for venir and other expressions with time. Prepare for a vocab quiz and dictation over Lesson 1A vocab on Friday, August 28th.
Friday, August 28: Students completed the Unit 1 Lesson 1A vocab quiz and dictation. Study the grammar that we have learned so far this week and prepare for a grammar quiz on Friday of next week.
Week 4
Monday, August 17: Students reviewed the -ir verbs in French and then we practiced ver conjugation. Study the grammar concepts we have covered so far in preparation for a grammar quiz on Friday, August 21.
Tuesday, August 18: Students reviewed the passé composé in French and then we practiced it. Study the grammar concepts we have covered so far in preparation for a grammar quiz on Friday, August 21.
Wednesday, August 19: Students continued to practice the passé composé and then we discussed some geography and some information about the French-speaking world. Please remember to study and prepare for the Review Unit Grammar Quiz on Friday.
These are the sections for the quiz:
Structure 1: Avoir and être in the present tense (5 mc questions)
Structure 2: Regular -ER verbs in the present tense (5 mc questions)
Structure 3: Regular -IR and -RE verbs in the present tense (5 mc questions)
Structure 4: Adjective agreement and placement (5 mc questions)
Written Response (5 questions worth 2 points each)
Friday, August 21: Students completed the Review Unit Grammar Quiz. We will begin Uni1 1 Lesson 1A on Monday.
Week 3
Monday, August 10: Students finished practicing some workbook activities and then we started the section "Ma famille" for the review unit. Study the grammar concepts we have covered so far in preparation for a grammar quiz. We will have a pronunciation quiz as well done at home and submitted by Monday morning (before school) of next week.
Tuesday, August 11: Students practiced more vocabulary from the section and they reviewed the uses of the verbs prendre and boire. Study the grammar concepts we have covered so far in preparation for a grammar quiz. We will have a pronunciation quiz as well done at home and submitted by Monday morning (before school) of next week.
Wednesday, August 12: Students completed a cultural reading about the school year in France. We also reviewed the verbs aller and faire, and we finished class with a class project. Please email me if you didn't finish in class and you need the instructions (due on Friday). Also, please remember to send me your pronunciation recording by Monday morning.
Friday, August 14: Students completed the workbook activities in order to practice the vocab and grammar from this week. Please remember to submit your pronunciation quiz by Monday before school and prepare for the grammar quiz on Friday, 8/21.
Week 2
Monday, August 3: Students practiced the vocab and we started the new section titled Ma vie. Study and prepare for a vocabulary quiz and vocabulary dictation early this week. Study the grammar that we have learned so far in preparation for a grammar quiz (date TBD).
Tuesday, August 4: Students completed the vocab quiz and then practiced grammar.
Block Day, August 5: Students practiced -er verbs in French and we had several conversation activities.
Friday, August 7: Students practiced with the workbook activities. Looking ahead, we will have several assessments over the next couple of weeks. We are currently finishing week 2, and at the end of week 4 students will take an exam covering vocabulary and grammar. Before that, they will complete a grammar quiz and a pronunciation quiz. Please make sure to prepare and practice accurate pronunciation. I will incorporate a few practice drills before those assessments.
Week 1
Monday, July 27: Students learned the class procedures.
Bienvenue ! Welcome! I am looking forward to teaching you French this year. Please remember that attending class is very important because this is where you will be learning, practicing, taking notes, and receiving homework instructions. I will normally not post homework instructions here, but I included this for the first day:
Learn the rules and procedures for French 2 so that you can be successful. Also, begin memorizing the Charger Way in French.
Fill out the back page of your syllabus with a parent/guardian by Friday, July 31st. This will be counted as a homework grade. Tear it out, fill it out, turn it in.
Bring a small photo to tape on the daily participation card. This will help me quickly memorize names and help me put names to faces this week. Bring your photo by BLOCK DAY as this will be counted as a homework grade.
As we will be interacting in French 99% of the time in class, it is important that you practice the pronunciation of the alphabet since you will be required (some may be extra credit opportunities) to provide the spelling for several words throughout the year. Here is a practice video. Similarly, I recommend that you practice the numbers from 1-100 with this practice video and pay attention to the pronunciation and the spelling for each number.
Tuesday, July 28: Students learned about the stressed syllable and how to place accent marks.
Write this down and practice a lot before class on Wednesday:
“Je m’appelle _________. Comment vous appelez-vous ?”
(My name is ______. What’s your name?)
Entrance ticket=ticket/billet d'entrée
Exit ticket=ticket/billet de sortie
Each day you will be required to tell me the entrance ticket before I hand you your discussion card and when you return it to me at the end of class (exit ticket). Remember to enter the classroom quietly. You cannot say it outloud as you are waiting your turn, and you may not read it to me (it must be memorized). If you say it correctly, I will give you your discussion card, but if you do not remember all of it or any of it, I will make a mark which means that you cannot give yourself 100% for the day. Most of it (and outstanding participation)=9/10, None of it (and outstanding participation)=8/10.
