Daily Homework
You will see homework Mon. - Thurs. There will be at least one page of math to complete each day, as well as writing their spelling words two times each (Starting week 3).
In addition, we recommend that the students write their phonograms next to the daily practice that we did, saying the sounds as they write. Students should also begin the habit of reading every day. There is a reading log on the outside of their yellow folder. Start marking how many pages or chapters your child is reading a night.

Phonograms: For those who are new to our school, you may not be familiar with phonograms. If you would like some help as you assist your student with homework, below is a picture of an app that gives the student practice in a variety of ways AND provides the sounds for each phonogram (very helpful for a parent).
Penmanship-
Penmanship is very important to us here at BFCS. Good handwriting is how students connect their letters to their sounds.
We grade penmanship on an O, S, N scale.
O-Outstanding, S-Satisfactory, N- Needs Improvement
In order to determine what grade your child receives we look at the Spalding outlines for good handwriting (which we call handwriting focuses). These focuses include:
-All letters sitting on the baseline
-Short letters starting at the midpoint
-Tall letters starting just below the top line
-Clock letters being round not oval
-Letter size and formation being consistent
-Down lines being straight and parallel
-Clock letters starting at 2 on the clock
-Dots and crossbars at the midpoint (i, f, t, etc.)
Please look at the examples below of what we would grade as O, S, or N.
