Pastries with Parents- Tuesday, October 14th
We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Pastries with Parents event on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 7:30–8:15 a.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and guardians to start the day with their child by enjoying breakfast pastries together before school. It’s a special time to connect with your child, meet other families, and help build our school community.
Grandparents Day Lunch-Friday, October 17th
This Friday all grandparents are invited to the school to eat lunch with their grandchild. Lunch will not be included for grandparents however so we ask that they pack a lunch and bring it with them. If they would like they may bring in lunch with them for your child to eat!
1st grade's lunch begins at 11:00 am and lasts for approximately 35 minutes. We ask that all grandparents arrive 10 minutes early so that the little ones don't think they were forgotten about and to discuss with them about it if their grandparents cannot attend.
One thing we have noticed is the local fast food restaurants get VERY busy on a day like this so please plan accordingly so they arrive on time. Our window for lunch is only 35 minutes and it goes by quickly.
Fall Carnival: Are You Smarter than a Crismon Falcon?
Every year, we host a fundraiser to help raise money for our school! This year we will be hosting a game show style quiz for all students! 1st Grade students will be challenged to answer as many questions about all styles of learning from english to science that they learned from all their time at school so far. Not only is this a fantastic fundraiser for the school, it's a great motivator for learning!
In the past, funds have been used for: Filling library shelves, sound systems, risers, playground improvements, trees, teacher appreciation & student recognition, water bottle filling stations and more!
This year we are hoping to raise money to bring more educational experiences to students here at school. Please consider donating to help us meet our goals!
Students can win their first prize by just signing up at the link below!
Math- Tackling money and time in Quarter 2
This quarter we tackle some of the most important math subjects, money and time! We will be learning to tell time on both a digital and analog clock. This can be difficult because the hour and minute hand look similar as well as analog clocks not being used as frequently now! Money concepts can be VERY challenging for some students, as it combines understanding of place value, skip counting, and visual discrimination between very similar coins...looking at you dime and nickel. We recommend starting practice now for the upcoming weeks so students have plenty of practice with these skills before test time.
Here are some teacher tips for time and money:
Money:
-Get out a handful of coins and separate them into like coins. Learn to identify the coins by size and appearance. Look at the presidents on the front and the image on the back of the coin. This often helps when the coin is “flat” on paper because our tests are rarely in color.
-Then practice adding up the value. We will be tested on mixed coins (quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies) not only adding all of one coin. An exercise might be to take about 5 coins of mixed value (not just all dimes or nickels, etc.) and count how much they are worth. Use those skip counting skills!
-Introduce $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills to your kiddo.
-Take them shopping with you to the store and pay cash! Have them count the change that you get back.
-Play store at home with a handful of change to pay for their items.
Time:
-We will be learning to tell time on a clock with the hour and minute hands (analog) and on a digital clock. The first thing we learn is the difference between the 2 hands.
-Start with “o’clock” and have the hour point to different times (5:00, 12:00, 6:00). Once they can identify o’clock, practice skip counting by 5 minutes around the clock with the big hand.
-We will need to tell time to "5 minutes" on the test.
Clocks are just skip counting! Notice a pattern between clocks and coins ;D
-Introduce quarter till and half past by showing them how to split the clock into halves or quarters
-Cover your digital clocks and make them read the analog at home!
