Family Programming

A free farmers market set up with produce from the farm to distribute to students.

The Bethel Farm hosts multiple family open house events in the spring, fall and summer in an effort to promote healthy food activities for kids and families in the Bethel School District. The open houses are opportunities for families to participate in hands-on farm activities, cooking demos and farm tours. Visit the Community Partners table at these events and sign up for free Seed to Supper and Cooking Matters classes, which are hosted on the Bethel Farm.

We provide OSU Extension Food Hero recipes and family resources as well as Oregon Harvest for Schools family newsletters. All written resources are available in both Spanish and English and we have a Spanish speaker at the event who can assist with tours and activities. At each event, we discuss what is in season in Oregon and how eating locally and growing your own food can promote healthy families.

During the summer months, The Bethel Farm hosts food, agriculture, and garden-based activities for Bethel families and community members. The Bethel Farm, in collaboration with OSU Extension’s Nutrition Education Program and Food for Lane County, hosts Farm to Table cooking demonstrations for community members and families. Families learn to prepare a simple farm-fresh snack, receive a recipe with ingredients to take home, and receive an Oregon Harvest for Schools family newsletter.

Families and community members are invited to participate in guided farm tours led by the Bethel Farmer and Summer Interns, have the opportunity to participate in a helping farm task, and will be invited to ask questions and learn more from the Farm Manager about how to grow their own food.

All farm visitors and program participants are invited to participate in volunteer opportunities. Formal group volunteer opportunities for community members are hosted throughout the growing season, or volunteers can work directly with the Farm Manager to self-schedule hours.
